Going down the road last night in the 2000 SD I started hearing A tick. Slowed coming into town and it was a miss. Stopped at the light and the truck would barely go. Missing badly I turned around to get close to home b4 it died al together. It made it back up to about 60 then started winding down. No more miss just some white smoke out the TP and then dead. It was 106* yesterday but the truck didn't get hot. Towed home, retarted badly then died, more white smoke so low ICP? Checked tonight and res is full, no burned smell in the VC's, fuel bowl is full and under good PSI. Checked for loose IPR nut and it's good, also checked IPR plug and its in good shape not warped or melted.

Does this sound like inner UVCH unplugging or seals blown on IPR?????

Been reading through and wondering if 1 bad injector could cause it to lose power like this. It took about 10 minutes to die. Also after it sits awhile it will hit start then die that quick.

Just a whisp, not like a CPS. Like it's not getting HPO.

My first instinct is IPR O-rings, stuck IPR or blown injector O-ring. Something that let the HPO out slow at first then dumped... like an Earthen Dam blowout.

If it's flagrantly missing and white smoking I would tend to look at other things then the IPR.

You really need to get a scanner on that thing. If it did not illuminate a CEL then more then likely it's not an UVCG issue. A buzz test / contribution test / reading of codes would tell us what is going on.

Fuel pressure you need to know what it actually is, but more then likely that's not your problem.

Get a scanner on the truck and report back.

Key On Cranking Idle WOT
ICP
IPR
Fuel Pres

Codes: ?

Buzz Test: ?

Lets start there, if it's a dead miss and it continues, a contribution test has shown me where a broken rocker arm is in the past. Bent/Broken pushrod, rocker arm, etc can cause that.

Let me know.

The miss went away as the power drained. It reminded me of a time when an alternator failed in my OBS and just ran out of power. The miss was just temporary and random. Also no cels. And the Volts stayed up, as did oil psi.

Thanks Marty.

The nearest guy with diagnostic is 100 miles away and on vacation til Sunday. I doesn't cost anything to pull the IPR and check it, plus it will give me good look at the res oil. I'll check that then the uvch til he gets back.

I had my brother 01 7.3 do the samething and it was a UVCH. I ended up having to go tow his horse trailer back so he could just drive the truck and at that it would only do 30mph. The whole left bank was dead but if you wiggled the harness right where it plugs in you could get it to come alive.

If you havent done UVCH I would do them.

You should have some spare UVCH's laying around in your glove box somewhere. Look under the spare CPS, behind the spare little block relays. Might be hidden by the spare fuel pump.

That's the first place I would look in my glove box anyway.

Right. You have a spare truck or two.

True dat! And oddly how I came to the answer. Saturday evening after work im heading to pickup a scrapper cheby. Start the obs and it immediately goes to shaking like s poodle 5hitting a peach seed!

No way I have 2 trucks acting the same way by coincidence!
So now Im looking at what they have in common... and I start with me.

What have I done, what have I not done thats the same on both.
And it hits me... Both are just weeks away from an oil change to get rid og the 5w winter syn. Head slap!

Carboned ff and leaky seals.

Oil change and ff... All is well with both.
