I have a 2001 f250 7.3 4x4 and when it hasn't ran for over an hour it'll crank and crank but won't turn over, the lights and radio will cut out while waiting for the "wait to start" light to go off and while starting there is a rattling like noice coming from what seems like the steering column. We replaced my glowplug relay b/c the test light said it wasn't working but its still having the same problem. What do i do?

That sounds like your ignition switch is bad. It is mounted down low on the column under the dash. Would explain why the radio and such are cutting out as well.

cool how can i tell if its bad?

Unless there is physical damage such as melted parts, the only way to tell if that one is bad is to replace it with a new one and see if the problem is fixed. Another issue you could have is a faulty GEM module due to water intrusion that comes from a windshield leak at the bottom driver side of the windshield.

Sounds like you have either bad batteries or something draining the batteries.

This sounds exactly like the problem. Bad batteries, bad grounds, bad starter, bad starter grounds, bad ignition.

I agree. So would my instances noted above.

Check your starter. Check your grounds.

If it was a short, your batteries would be dead and it would not start.

Sounds like dirty grounds that after trying enough will eventually burn they way through to contact. That or a starter that is doing pretty much the same thing.

Sent from my truck while eating, adjusting the radio and passing a Mustang sideways.
