Tuning Question

I am ordering new exhaust, injectors, and a custom tune for the PCM tomorrow, as soon as Jody gives me a call back. I have rethought my last question on here about tuning, as far as wanting a safe tune that I don't need gauges for.

I have a stock truck now and will be getting AB code injectors (stage 1's). I am still looking for a reliable tune that won't trigger p1211 codes with a stock HPOP and that I can keep cool towing on hills. I'd like power to be similar to a stock SD truck, so like 300hp/550 ft-lb.

Is this a good number to shoot for? Are my goals realistic? I do tow heavy with this truck, so am more worried about reliability than power. Are there any specific requests I should ahve with the tuning? I am getting a flash so I can't turn it on and off - it needs to drive nicely and behave.

I would say just tell Jody exactly what your plans are. I doubt he is going to be keen on your no gauges idea and I do not see a way to make that work well at all with your HP goals.

The truck will get gauges.

Is 300hp too much for towing heavy on a mostly stock truck? I know Jody can deliver the fuel, I'm not sure if I want that much.

Even with a stock tune, I think you would be surprised, how high and fast EGT's will climb when towing.

:whs: I always thought towing in stock mode was safe no matter what... Until I got gauges. It's amazing how your EGT's can climb within seconds, whether stock or tuned.

I would say to just be on the safe side and invest in gauges before anything else. I know they are not fun to pay for and they add no performance, but they are worth it in the long run.

And I'm sure Jody can make you any tune you have the need for.

I would say that is pushing it. I cannot remember if you had an intercooler or not.

Jody thought the 60hp tune would be good, but that's when he thought I had an automatic. I am beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have told him I wanted the 40HP tune.

I do not have an intercooler.

Thoughts??It's not too late, the PCM goes out today.

The bottom line is still your right foot. I would not worry about it. Big one for controlling EGT is not lugging the motor.

Are they "stage 1" 160cc single shots or 120cc splits? You said AB stage 1s so it's confusing. I don't see you making 300hp with AB splits. Regular stage 1s then yes.
