Alright guys I need some advice on which way to go with my turbo setup. I've done a lot of research but still can't come up with a decision. Im currently run a powermax with 175/75 injectors. It runs great, but I'm think of possibly going the non vgt route to try something new. I daily drive the truck around town and highway and I never tow anymore. I thinking maybe a full non vgt setup from mpd or if I stay vgt going with a stage 2 or hybrid from mtw. The only issue I run into is I see a lot of people run either 190 or 205 injectors. I really don't want to do my injectors again since I just did them in September. What do you guys think I should do?

If it were me I would do a vgt. If you want a clean burning, fun, smokefree truck as a dd, id call up Adrian @ MTW... I would recommend the stage 2 personally since im not a big fan of the billet batmo wheels used in the hybrids. But if your gungho on a non vgt, Craig is the man to get ahold of for sure... He will set you up with a turbo that fits those 175s perfectly. Another thing to look at is your tuning. With the stage 2 all the tuners have to do is modify your existing files, whereas with the Non VGT all the tunes have to be rewritten completely.

Madds stage 3 is a solid turbo. I say that cause we've actually pushed one and its still running strong

Mpd would be my first choice if I went that route, but being gunho about it I'm not all there on it. I know I would have have to do full up pipes and manifolds to the job the right way but that drives the price right up. Then tuning is another whole ordeal. I love the truck way it runs now because the power is right there and I pretty much have no lag. I think I'll contact mtw about a stage 2 or 3. On their website it says either one will do 175 injectors I just need to pick the right one.

Seeing that you have an 05 I would probably pass on getting an MTW hybrid for now. Adrian seems to be having a lot of surging issues with the hybrids and the 2005. Some are doing good some aren't. I have an 05 also and am running a stage 1 that is having surging issues. There is something screwy with the 05's. I don't know if the stage 2 is giving him any problems. Give him a call he is more than willing to talk about his turbos.

I think you have to ask yourself what you want from your truck and do you plan on going bigger in the injector area?? I would say if you plan to keep your 175/75s then a MTW Stage 2 with the right tuning should all but clean up your injectors and still keep stock turbo response. Of course another option that should be thrown out there for consideration/discussion is RCD's 68mm Powermax as this would be a very cost effective upgrade for you and seems to be a good match up with the 175/75s in Garrett's truck. Of course though, I think if you decide to go bigger than 175 injectors, then you might as well go with the MTW Stage 3.

On a side note, if you decide that non-VGT is what you want to pursue, then I would also suggest MPD. Best of luck for sure.

That's good to know about the surging because about a week or so ago the powermax started to surge time to time. I found it very weird because its been on the truck for a little over a year now and it's been newly tuned for the injectors since September and that was the first time it happened. I would honestly stay vgt just because its just comes down to swapping turbos and a easy retune. I also have no intention of going bigger on the injectors now unless I was going on to a more serious build on the truck and as of right now I just don't want to spend it. So I think it comes down to the stage 2 or the rcd 68 which ill just have to do alittle bit more research on.

I ran the mtw stage 3 with 175's, it was quite street able and lag was comparable with the stock turbo and same injectors. Mid to top end had amazing results

Well I really think the Stage 3 would give you the most airflow and performance out of all the options talked about inconjunction with really good street manners. It is just the price that I was looking at that I mentioned the other turbos. I would say if price is not an object, then I would go with the Stage 3, but I thought I remember hearing somewhere that RCD could convert your Pmax to a 68mm for like $1000. Don't quote me on that though. Either way you go, I think you'll be happy.

If you send your pmax to RCD they can modify it to a 68mm. I believe it is around $1000, but if your interested in that or have questions I would contact Jared.

Ok great I seriously think I've made up my mind on the stage 3 turbo. If it will run exceptionally good on the street and have more room to play with in the future injector wise. Being that the truck is my dd and I have to drive into NYC atleast 5 days a week I can't have my truck down to send the pmax out. I would rather have the turbo in my hand to swap out right away with no down time.

I think you'll like the Stage 3. It should definitely give you the mid to top end air flow you're looking for.

I'm going to call up Adrian this week and order one up. I can't believe how hard it is to find a couple of pictures of the stage 3.
