Turbo & HPFP Questions

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple questions about some of the different 2015-Style turbo and HPFP options for 2011-2014 trucks. My truck is a 2012 CCSB, and I'm deleted running Gearhead tunes. The truck runs absolutely fantastic, but I can only maintain about 24,000 psi of rail pressure on the "performance" setting. I'm going to upgrade to a better HPFP in the near future, and I'm planning on upgrading the turbo in the next couple of months.

As far as the HPFP goes, I'm leaning towards bolting on a 2015 pump. I don't want or need a race truck, and I have no plans of trying to get to the 600 hp mark with this truck. That being said, I just don't see the point of dual fuelers or a modified pump. Who has put a 2015 pump on their 2011-2014 truck, and what are your thoughts?

Also, I'm torn between a 61 mm billet turbo and 64 mm billet turbo. (2015-Style) I'd like to see a gain over what I'm running now, but I'm not sure I really "need" the 64 mm. Lower EGT's would definitely be a big plus, but I need to maintain good drivability at the same time. Again, if the people who have/are running these setups would please chime in, I would really appreciate your feedback.

Finally, as far as usage goes, the truck is mostly just my daily driver. I average about 30,000 miles per year, so reliability and drivability are VERY important. I also pull a horse trailer a couple weekends a month, so whatever I do has to be "tow friendly".

That's about it... I look forward to reading some comments/opinions.

Thank You!

Maybe talk to Gearhead and see what they have to say about your fuel pressure dealio. On performance I have no problem maintaining 28-29 KSI pressure. I have a 14F350 so I don't believe it should be any different. I'm also looking forward to hearing some responses as I'm in the same boat as you. I'm pretty interested in the SPE turbo kit with piping myself...

I actually did talk to Gearhead, and they seem to think the HPFP on my truck is a little weak... The truck will hold 28k-29-k on every other setting, but can't keep up with how much fuel is commanded on the "performance" level. I'm pretty much sold on the 2015 HPFP, so now I just need to pick a turbo. With a stock 2015 HPFP, I've been told that a 61 mm billet turbo will run very well, but I'm hoping that some people who have actually run this setup will chime in.

I personally believe you should wait for the h&s performance turbo kit.

Throw a 15' pump on for less than a grand and call it a day.

The H&S kit looks great, but it has been "60 days out" for well over a year, hasn't it? I know good things take time, but it would sure be nice if there was more information out there on this kit. If you do have some information on what the kit will be, please share...

Well.... haha. I understand that comment for sure.

If you look in the vendor section under HS motorsports I think it is, you'll find more info on it now.

Based on what's in the vendors area, the kit looks pretty impressive. I'm not building a race truck though, so I'm unsure about the fixed turbo. If it would work for how I use my truck, I would definitely be interested. If there are more details available on the kit, please send me a PM. I don't need a turbo tomorrow, (at least I hope not), but some more information would be very helpful.

I did the 15 pump. Pleased with results. Will probably do the Midwest modified pump when it comes out with a charger. Truck now holds rail pressure where it would not before.

It would work very well. I know it performs good towing. That kit is not designed as a race application, where did you get that impression?

I just assumed the H&S kit was designed to be more of a race setup. If not, some more information would be great, but I haven't been able to find any.

No, designed to get max performance without sacrificing drivability and towing etc.

As long as the truck will maintain good street drivability, I wouldn't mind a non vgt turbo kit. The reason I've been looking at 2015-style vgt kits is because they seem to be the best balance of power, drivability, etc. I feel like choosing a turbo is an expensive gamble haha...
