So I'm lookin to get a new turbo for my dually. It's an 04 with stock sticks. Iv talked to barder a little bit and he suggests the 1.5 or stage 2 turbo. I'm stuck between barder, mtw, or buying a powermax. What has everyone run? A little run down on the truck is that it's a tow rig so I need to it not get too hot since I'll have 20k hooked to it on the weekends. I need a little room to grow with it since I would like to get a little bit bigger injectors for it at some point. Iv already got a built tranny and the egr stuff done. Just need to do studs this summer. So again I would like some insight as which turbo to run.

BARDER
MAD TURBO WERKS
GARRETT POWERMAX

And go!

Thanks guys!!!

I'm sorry, but did you say something? I was busy staring at your avatar! Lol

You can't go wrong with a powermax, but it will still have a cast wheel. I can't say enough good about Barder! I have his stage 2 with billet wheel. Max egt's are 1100ish on a race tune. I've only towed once and was about 8-10k (2wd f250 w/service body on a 16ft double axle trailer). Trailer had a tire running hot so I limited my speed to 55-60 mph. I couldn't tow in OD since rpm were so low (1500rpm; 35" tires and 3.73s), but it worked great! I couldn't break 1000 degrees going WOT uphills. Cruising egt's were 800-900 depending on hill. I actually stopped looking at the gauge since it never got out of control. Im guessing you already have 4.10s being a dually? If so I would jump at the stage 2. I don't know if MTW has been able to improve turnaround time or QC lately so I won't go beyond that about them.

Wow that's the response I was looking for. If I did go with the pmax I would get the WW2 for it. Do you have stock sticks in it right now?

Yup. Stock sticks. I'd like to get bigger injectors, but that's pretty far down the road for me. With stock injectors this thing is still fun to drive

Very distracting.
I think you'll get a better value with the Barder. There are a lot of happy customers. The powermax is tried and true but you'll have to make the call.

I vote barder stage 2.

I'm planning to do either an 03 turbo w/ a WW2(college budget), or a BTS stage 2 or a non VGT setup. But I'm not towing anything. I also plan to move up to a 175cc injector.

the Pmax doesnt flow that much more than stock even with a billet wheel. i have one and want something bigger. but it is a good stock replacment.

Op what I think what we need to know is how big of an injector you're going to go with. If you want 155s I'm going to suggest a turbo for 175s. Cause that's what you'll most likely end up with lol sad but true.

I'll probably end up goin with a 175 since I tow heavy with it

I think a 175 with a 30% nozzle would be a great injector. the 68 from barder should clean those up completely (probably overkill). Not sure how it would be towing and how the lag is. Maybe Oliver will chime in on that. Even then with a stage 2 I bet you could get a good cool tow file written and be mid 500s on a race file when you want to play. Reg return, guages....... all that jazz if you don't already have it.
