I am in the process of rehabbing a set of turbos to replace my screeching HP side.
The replacement pair are still connected, so how do I separate them, and more importantly, how do I get them back together at the right distance?
I see there are no bolts in the top holes between the two units, and there is a gap between them also. Is there a dimension, a gap? Or do they find their own equilibrium after being run for a while?

Any other hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Bill.

Seperating them should not be an issue once they are removed from the truck. There is a seal between them that sometimes takes some light hammering on the housings, I recommend a dead blow style or no bounce (rubber or plastic face) Make sure the bolts are out where the lifting bracket is supposed to go ( some get bolts put in there by mistake)

Once you put them back together just slide them as close together as you can, and install them, they kind of fall into place. make sure that the hold down bolts are good and tight and that your oil drains are in.

Yep, just soft-hammer them apart. When reinstalling I put the bolts(up-pipe bolts are the same) and then remove when everything is situated. I've forgotten them in a few times with no ill effects, but I wouldnt recommend it with heat expansion being a big role there.
