So I just bought this 08 f250 kr. It has 74k on it now.
I was out in the field picking up hay and while crossing a ditch found that the auto hubs don't work. The transfer case works and manual hubs will lock in, what could it be other than the vac lines to the axle. ? #2. I'm no transmission expert but while going into reverse in my truck, something is wrong. It clunks about 3 or 4 times while it engages. All forward gears are fine and it is smooth transitioning. Just reverse is bad. It is a fairly subtle clunk, it does not rattle my head or anything crazy, just annoying. Should I be considering a trans rebuild before to much longer?

Hubs are most likely trash. Auto hubs dont handle the abuse well. They really should be locked in manualy imho

Check the electronic 4x4 solenoid on the passenger side of the radiator shroud. Only 1 10mm? bolt holds it on. Two vacuum lines and a plug is all that connects to it. I have seen a bunch of them go bad. Mine went bad with only 40k on it. 4x4 lights, transfer case, vacuum pump, everything works but if this doesn't, then the hubs don't engage automatically. You have to manual lock them.
