So I have a set of heads and was going to do springs and shims. Was thinking about valves also because the heads are not on the motor. What all is involved in actually doing the valves besides dropping them and putting the new ones in? Also what else would you all recommend me doing to the heads. I am planning on injector cups since they are not expensive and these heads have not been used since 2004 IIRC? So as it stands I am doing springs/shims and injector cups. Should I have them decked?

Anybody have any clue about basic headwork? Valves those types of things? Its going to just be a basic setup, 250s, forged rods, and an Irate 467 turbo setup.

you know a good machine shop? guys use 910 springs. Gearhead and swamps sell them and upgraded push rods. I rebuilt some heads back in school. new springs keepers re ground the valves and vale seats, lapped the valves, new bore guides and everything.

I already knew about the 910s and that's what I was planning on and probably just SB pushrods. More of what I was asking is are those things you listed needed if the heads are still good? Would it be worth spending the money on those things? Its not going to be a crazy build or anything just basic setup around 5-550 for a goal on this motor.

I did new valves (seats and a grind job whole nine), had my heads decked, port and polished and new cups and pressure teasted/fluxed when I did my truck.. Wasn't terribly expensive

How many miles on the current heads? That's more of thing for your machine shop to look at and tell you if it needs replaced . After your spending all the money on the build another couple hindered bucks isn't much to insure everything is good

45K miles or so. I am going to get a hold of a machine shop and get them to go over them. Port and Polish is not going to be done on these, I am not intending for this motor to ever be more then the 550 mark and it will only have forged rods. If it was billets, that would be a whole different story and thread also.

Hey Cody what was the cost of all the head work you had done? I am guessing that the port/polishing is the most expensive thing done to them.
