Put the key in the run position, with the engine off is the best way to test the vacuum. If the pump comes on and never shuts off, then you know its leaking vacuum. If your vents default to the defrost position, then you know you will have to trace the vacuum lines back up to the vacuum reservoir, and plug it somewhere. Its been so long since mine have worked, I'm not exactly sure where I plugged mine. I think in my case, the vacuum solenoid went bad and was leaking vacuum to my hubs or to atmosphere constantly, so I plugged the supply line feeding the solenoid. If your solenoid doesn't leak, you could just unplug the power wire or connector feeding 12 volts to it so it can't make the switch, and it will act as the plug. I just realized that this is in the 6.0 section, and I have a 7.3. But the logic is still the same even if the parts are different. [/QUOTE]
