Weep hole in my water pump started leaking, so I'm assuming a new water pump is needed. Going to replace the t-stat and for sure the t-stat housing. What does everyone recommend for sealing the new housing and pump? The Motorcraft brand replacement pump and such as good as any?

Guessing this is my original pump, so just about 180,000miles on it isn't bad.

Thanks guys!

i just got done putting a new water pump on mine and it was my original and it had almost 300,000 miles on it, the motorcraft brand is better than most but its a little more expensive, i went with the napa water pump and it came with two o-rings. one for the t-stat housing and one for the the water pump.

The new Motorcraft thermostats have an improved seal that wraps about the thermostat.

Look at eastern wahter pumps on ebay or amazon. I got mine for <$100 with a life time waranty. They've been in businuss for quite some time. Same brand NAPA sells as well as RiffRaff and some of the venders. And I used the Diesel Site Tstat housing.

Got the napa one with a lifetime warranty. Ford wanted $90 for a t-stat housing, so dieselsite it is.

were allowed to say Riff Raff over here?

and I hate to tell you..
I've been in the repair business too long to know that if two different parts
at three hundred dollars different in price
both claim to be the same thing
one of them is full of $h!t

I'll leave it up to you to decide which one, as it is not my money nor my water pump.

All back together, with new ELC coolant. However, truck is running about 15-20* cooler than before . . . idles about 160, and on the highway, stays about 175*. Not sure what to think of that. Will be ordering the 203* t-stat and billet housing ASAP, but not 100% sure that'll cure it. Thoughts?

Typical dealer mark up, $81 for a thermostat housing . . . $38 at Napa . . . Plus Ford only offered a couple year warranty.

I just had mine replaced while on a trip to Wisconsin. Ford dealer was the only place in town that could get me in quickly.

I picked up my truck and drove around unloaded for about 75 miles to make sure nothing leaked (everything was fine).

The next day got on the road towing my camper and after 75 miles we stopped and found that the lower radiator hose was leaking from the pump outlet (a couple of drops per second).

The dealer also had a problem with this same leak and changed the lower radiator hose.

In my spare parts I carry a few different sized hose clamps, I slid the Ford clamp off the hose and added a hose clamp. This stopped the leak.

IMO The clamps used by Ford on the lower radiator hose would not clamp down uniformly enough to stop the hose from leaking. I would replace or renew the Ford clamps while everything else is apart.

I apologize if giving my opinion as to where I would purchase one, is in the wrong. MSRP from ford is like $274, i know Clay's went on sale about a month ago or so when they were over $200.

I have been in the repair business probably not that long relatively speaking, but long enough to know that there is also a lot of markup for certain outlets, when you can source the same part from the manufacturer that is originally building the part to be sold by various outlets at various prices. For instance I have a special bolt on a printing press that I service, that from the manufacturer would be $650, yes one bolt. However through sourcing the manufacturer of the bolt, I now purchase that exact bolt from the actual manufacturer for $175. Another example is a simple drive monitoring board for a frequency drive, that is sold and marketed by Emerson electric, at a price of over $4000 however Texas instruments builds the board and one can be purchased directly from them for under $500.

Reasoning? I was thinking the warmer one would be ideal for the extreme colds we get and my lack of heavy towing . . . what does the 203* start opening at?

Just wondering

When it opens has ben a debated over and over. And what is open LOL. Get one and try it out. Try it in a pot on the stove get some info there first. Then try it on the truck and see how you like it. Mine was wife approved in the winter time.LOL I have the 203 In mine. No issues. I could detect a small difference when completely warm with a smother idle. But I had to really pay attention. If a stocker sat side by side I would not be able to tell the difference though. Each truck is different so see what your truck likes. :jammin:

Went with the Napa pump. Lifetime warranty as long as I have the receipt. Can't beat that, especially if a person plans to own the thing for the foreseeable future such as myself.
