Can the '03/early'04 be retrofitted with the larger water pump? If so, is it worth it? Any idea of the number of incidents of overheating, while towing, with the smaller pump?

i think the front housing needs swapped but I don't recall for sure

I have never heard the smaller impeller causing an issue when reading the forums ?

looks like a lot of work , and I still don't know if they are interchangable and what els might need swapped ?

or maybe the part under just the pump can be modified? ?? hope someone who knows what the hell their talking about shows up soon LOL

We sell alot of these and customers love them....never had a problem with a truck over heating...

Just about every MD and HD Cummins I see with the composite impeller shows some kind of damage. That BD unit is a work of art but Alliant sells one with a steel impeller that I can get without threatening my kids' college funds. I haven't heard of any overheating problems in the early builds either, but then why did Ford go to the 100mm impeller? :shrug:

To move 've more volume is why Ford would have changed the design. You can't move too much,imo. The 7.3 water pumps look stupid in comparison. Do 6ohs even have cooling problems? I've never, knock wood, had coolant temps issues(I have 7.3s) but trans have been overheated my watch.

only way to put the larger water pump on an '03-early 04 is to put the later '05-07 front cover on the engine. Other than that...the larger water pump wont fit in the early front cover. I've got the Bullet Proof water pump on my early '04...no complaints so far.

If you replace your front cover with a newer version, make sure the water inlet has the correct orientation. Some are 3:00, others are 4:00.

My engine is an '03 and I run the newer front cover with the bigger Bullet Proof pump....love it!

Great tip...thanks. Is the newer cover a direct bolt on?
