Found a set of Weld wheels. 1 wheel has cracks in two of the spokes. The cracks don't bother me as I have welded up several aluminum wheels in the past and never had a problem. But after doing some digging cracking looks common on some of the older Weld wheels. Is this somthing I really have to worry about?

Wow, ive never heard of the forged series cracking. The older 16.5s would crack here and there but still that wasnt a common issue either.

Since its already cracked, could you grind it out to see how deep it is and weld it back up, then smooth and polish it out. Ive seen centers ripped out of 16.5x14s. Thats not pretty.

I dunno if I would risk it . But I'm a negative nancy. I have a friend whose been running 20x12 dunes with 2 cracked spokes in 1 wheel for over 3 years fwiw

Bought a extra set of 16.5x14s just to get one wheel to mount a spare on. Guy hit a ditch with a super duty and did this to one of em. Came out clean from the piece in my hand but chopped the hell out of the wheel. Only payed 100 for all 4 though.

Yeah, I just wanted a spare 14 wide to mount a tire on for long trips. Couple o buddies did too so it worked out pretty well.

I have welds on my truck without an issue so far. My buddy owns a tire shop and mentioned that Weld did have a cracking problem for awhile and he would recommend getting rid of them.

Maybe I worry too much but no way would I weld cracked wheels and then use them. The risk of hurting someone, liability, etc is just not something I'd be willing to put on the line to save a few hundred dollars. Some things just need to be done right imo but then again I am no wheel expert.

It's not the repair I'm worried about. It's the possibility of the other spokes cracking. I've repaired enough Aluminum wheels to say with confidence the welds would be solid. That being said I decided to pass on the wheels.
