[QUOTE="MeTo, post: 1486930, member: 23681"] I stole this when I was doing some research filters. All CFM numbers were between 16" H2O and 20" H2O (from what I read, this is the optimal range to determine the most true CFM flow for the calculated 631 CFM flow for the 7.3 Powerstroke). From the Donaldson Air Cleaner Selection Guide: To find the correct CFM of a filter in a more simplistic calculation, you use the following formula: Airflow (CFM) = HP (SAE) x SA Where HP is listed at maximum value and a certain RPM, on the stock 7.3 Powerstroke, this = 275 HP SA = (Specific Airflow) per HP. There are different values for 4-stroke, 2-stroke, natural aspirated vs turbo, etc. For the 7.3 Powerstroke, this number is 2.3 So, CFM = 275 HP X 2.3 SA, CFM = 632.5 This is a CFM airflow rate at the maximum HP your truck outputs. Replace the HP # to find out what CFM filter you would need. The AIS is rated at 650 CFM. So, 650 = xHP X 2.3. 650/2.3 = 282.6 According to the Donaldson filter guide's equation, the AIS is good up to 282.6 HP. *I did find other reputable companies that had calculations and they all were consistent with one another.
