I have had a loud whining sound from my truck since I bought it. Doesnt sound like its coming from the engine. I think Ive traced it to the fuel pump. I know compared to other psd's my pump is super loud when I turn the key, very loud almost buzzing/whining sound. When the engine is cold you cant really hear it for about 30 seconds then it starts whining away. What would cause the pump to be so loud? the truck runs great and seems like it has good fuel pressure.
Thanks for any input

Have you done the intank "Hutch" mod? If the fuel pickup is clogged it could be placing a pretty good strain on the pump. You dont have any kind of pre-pump filter do you?

Thats a good idea. I have not done the Hutch mod on the truck. I was thinking that a clogged pickup could be causing this and I do not have a pre pump filter. With 267,000 miles on it I need to get inside the tank sometime to take a look. Thats just a lot of work and I dont really know how to do that.

That would be great if that was the problem, I just don't wanna replace it and it still do it. Think a pump off of Ebay would work? I found one for like 75 bucks

@big bore, thanks for the links, I'll try to do all that before I replace the pump. That kit comes with the 5/8 line so I can't use it on stock flow, can I just change the size of the tubing and call it done?

I did mine on a rack just recently its easier ,but u could jack the ass up and get under and do it. another thing to look at is if it is a aftermarket pump airtex, carter, yada yada they can be loud . i had the same problem then i went with a fass pump no more noise. the factory bosch is quite as long its good shape and there is no strain on it. My mixxing chambers were about plugged not cool.

did you get the parts together yourself or did you buy the kit and did you install a pre pump filter?

All DIY and its ghetto rigged and still works great...

All I ran for an inline filter before the pump is a little cartridge filter(like you use on ATV's, dirtbikes, etc) and it flows fine and keeps the pump safe.
