Something i got to thinking about on my drive down to Jungle Jims, which is possibly the greatest supermarket in the world. Because its so cold my truck hardly gets above 170* running around town, and running 65 down the highway it would only creep past 184* if i was running up a hill, then it would drop back down to 180*. I've got a bra to put on if i ever find some snaps for it to help warm-up, and maybe bring up operating temps

So just curious, what is the optimum EOT for the 7.3?

BTW, i'm reading my EOT with a Scanguage.

That's is where mine runs in the winter here. I just figured it was the norm. 170-185 for me. Outside temps range from 40 to -0 on average . Summer months I've had mine up towards 205 pulling a livestock trailer and 90 out.

This is reading off my edge insite

are you guys talking EOT (oil temp) or ECT (coolant temp)

my EOT never gets above 160* in the summer and barely breaks 100* in the winter(it actually mimics my trans temp almost perfectly)

I would guess they are talking EOT as thats the title of the thread.....

And if those are your oil temp numbers I would think they are wrong.

Engine oil temp, don't have a coolant temp gauge, although i want one.

And i think your actually reading your trans temp, not EOT. I don't think EOT numbers like that are even possible.

In the summer mine runs around 190-200 but running out to SDX i think i saw it around 210*, which was running hard on the highway with a couple guys and A/C on full blast. So i don't think my temps are abnormal. I'm just curious as to what the ideal temperature is for the oil/engine.

going by my guage, not reading from PCM

However, my EOT sender is mounted in a port on the rear of the block above the oil cooler....could position change readings that much?

jungle jims is the cats a$$! around no less than 185 is desirable

It is an amazing store. We are trying to make it down there about twice a month, as its only 45 minutes away, we just end up spending a lot of money there. LOL

And i was thinking i've read its no less than 185, but ideal is around 200-205? Noticed today again running kinda hard coming home from the farm just playing around, EOT never crept past 175 and the upper rad hose was ice cold when i got home. Got the spare grill on the dinning room table right now trying to figure out how to mount this cover.
