Ive got my heads off to do headgaskets and studs but while their out i was thinking about maybe sending in the injectors to get them flowed and cleaned up. When one of these typically hangs up is it a wear related issue or just a minor random fault that happens? Reason I ask is because I dont know if its worth me sending them in and payin $240 just to be flowed and cleaned up if its just a random thing thats not wear related when I could spend that money elsewhere the truck only has 80,000 miles on it and everythings been deleted from 7,000mi

I probably wouldn't worry about sending them off. Usually a pretty freak deal if an injector hangs open and melts a piston

have you kept up on any piston cracking/melting threads lately?...... it's getting really common.

now that being said, I cracked a piston. flowed my injectors, and they all checked out perfect.

Yes I have seen the threads...and like I said its usually a freak deal with no common cause. And a cracked piston is not from a hung open injector. A melted piston is though

My injector went bad about 1000 miles after my build, if I had them checked during the build it might have saved me some time and money in the end. Just food for thought.

I didn't say my injector caused it. but heck, it coulda hung just as easy. $240 is nothing compared to the cost of repairing a motor. why not while you're that far down.

240 is cheap insurance. I've seen many of these motors with bottom end issues and almost all of them lead back to the injector causing the issue. Actually it's the hpfp that is the root cause... It would be wise to look and see if the high pressure fuel pump is passing any metal. If it is get it taken care of.

I had one hang open and busted a piston, though they can work fine on a flow bench and still go bad later.
