My new 01 f250 is missing jack rods. I already have a smaller but higher rated bottle jack, but still need the rods for the stock one. On my exploder the jack rod lowers the spare... The dealership guy was a dick and didn't explain much but said I needed a key they couldn't get...

What key and does this come with the rods? The only reason I really want any of this is to be able to get my damn spare off one so I can use it and two so I can acces my trailer wiring because it's not functioning..

Any help would be appreciated

sounds like you talked to the wrong guy. I dont know why they cant sell the key. It is just a metal sleeve that slips on the end of the jack rods that you put in the tube for the spare tire hoist. I would imagine that you could get the rods and key from the dealer. If you strike out there you might try a tire shop. At the very least they will know who to refer you to.

Check to see if the key code is in your owner's manual, either written down or on a piece of paper stuffed between the pages. Each key is unique. Dealer might be able to look up the code using the VIN. Look at a wrecker yard for the rods.

I used a pair of pliers amongst other tools to "pop" out the key part.
I now have a piece of rec bar (.375" x .5") welded to a 4' long piece of round bar for mine. The small rectangle piece slides into where the key used to be. On the other end of the round bar I welded an old 1/2" drive cracked socket I had. So I use a 1/2" drive ratchet to let it down...

Hope this helps!

Have a dealer take the part that has to have a key connect to it
Out...I did that when i lost my key on my 6.0...after that go to a junkyard and pick up the rods, then the rod can go in by itself without the key and take the tire down

Where are you located? I think I have my rods and my hoist that I removed from my 02. Maybe the key too. I will have to check when I go to my shop in a few days.

I cut the cable as low as possible to remove the spare. After I got the lift functioning, I just lowered the cable and hooked it back up the the piece that fits up in the rim. There is plenty of cable left over.
