Just got my A1000 installed on the truck, Now When I'm idling with the Ac on and accessories its really dragging my current Alternator. What high output after market ones has anyone used with good luck? Should I go with 165 amp or higher ?

Thanks.

I just upgraded my alternator for the same reason. You get what you pay for with alternators, many rewound units have poor idle performance, small bearings or overheating issues. I went with a DC power engineering 270a which is overkill but they make one about 180a that would be perfect for a mostly stock electrical load.

That's the same place. I just figured 20 extra amps for $30 more wasn't too bad so I went with the 270a.

Jcart, so that T series mount was a bolt on? I have a Mitsubishi ambulance Alt ready to go, but havn't needed it. I work with T mount and Prestolight all the time, just never thought to try on on the PSD mount.

Yes sir bolted right up... Of course had to source longer bolts as the frame is significantly larger than the wimpy stocker. Also had to mess with the stock rear plug. Other thing I did was run a ground (#2 welding cable) across engine front to driver's battery neg post. Aaand ran a positive cable of same size as above to passenger fender (off alternator + post) to 250 amp fuse then to + post on passenger battery. Left stock harness hooked up too. Wanted the ability to run optional gear from the + post 250 amp fuse. Perhaps a bit over kill but so far has worked well.
