I'm in need of a set of sticks and studs. I found a motor that was pulled out of a truck that's already studded for 750 bucks. The guy got fed up after numerous problems and had a Cummings put in it. I guess the final straw was when it died on the interstate. Nobody has diagnosed the engine but they think it lost oil pressure. If so you guys think the injectors could be rebuilt? Optimal ly, I would like to buy that engine pull the sticks out send them off to get reworked then drop them in my truck. I've decided its too much risk to reuse the studs but I could prob make my money back by parting that engine or if things go good maybe build it up and find something to put it in.

If it did infact die due to a loss of oil pressure, I would just leave that thing alone.

Ya. That's what i figured. I'm not so much worried about the bottom end but obviously I don't want injectors full of metal. I'm hoping maybe he just a small HP oil leak. Maybe dummy plugs or something.

I think windrunner was trying to say that by checking color differentiation on the bottom end, you'd have a good idea as to whether or not the engine was smoked. If so...put it in a bag and set it out by the curb Tuesday morning.

You never said what year motor. It could just be a stc fitting or a dead hpop. Either way it should be worth picking up for the money. And there is no reason why you can't reuse the studs. many people have done it with no problem including myself. Once you pulled the turbo off and the hpop cover you can look and see if the stc fitting has been hammering on the cover. That would be a good indicator that its bad. Thats if its an 05 up.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm not sure of the year since I haven't seen the motor in person yet. I do know the studs have been retorqued twice at least so ill pass on those. I just figured even if the motor is bad I'm sure there's parts on it I could part out and at least get half of my money back. Honestly of the pump failed, the heads could be good. There's a couple hundred bucks plus whatever it cost to get them checked. The Turbo may be good. Either way its a gamble. Worst case scenario I lose money. Ill make more tomorrow though : )
