Well apparently I bought a junk transfer case for my 4wd swap. Under any kind of a load (boosted launch, harsh mudding, etc...) you can hear and feel the chain slipping it's butt off.

So I'm looking for another one THAT IS KNOWN TO WORK PROPERLY!!! LOL

Needs to fit an F250 6.0 ('04.5-'07). The closer the better but shipping can probably be arranged. Thanx!

i've got an obs with a carrier bearing in the rear drive line. I thought the same thing, transfer case sounded like chain slipping. replaced the transfer case, still did the same. got to looking and the carrier bearing was flexing so much the ujoints were hitting the fuel tank guard. Replace carrier bearing, problem solved.
Might be worth a quick check and see if the driveline is hitting something. Also if it is the transfer case, oil should have lots of iron in it. might also be worth checking oil before you get too far into it.

just put in a new chain and sprocket set, and replace any bad bearings and seals, if you find any. Very easy to do and then you know what you have. Also probably cheaper than a good used unit that may or may not be good.

I'm gonna buy a used one to put in and rebuild the current one so I have a spare.
