Hey all,

ill be installing a automatic trans in my truck coming from a ZF 5speed so I have a couple questions. I have a 97 f350 that's doing the 5spd swap so I have next to everything I need.
3 questions that I have in my head right now are.
1.) how will I wire a OD switch as I am doing a floor shifter
2.) how to wire for reverse lights.( I think theres a 2 pronge dongle on the zf for reverse.
3.) how much shorter does my drive shaft have to be? I think I can just use the front portion of an automatic extended cab drive shaft. The donor truck is a single cab and mine is a extended.

I plan on keeping my transfer case and he plans on keeping his, I think the rest of the swap wont be toooo bad as we will literally swap part for part.
Anything I should directly look out for?

The OD switch is a momentary contact switch. You can get one a place such as Radio Shack. I don't have a wiring diagram to show you which pins to connect to.

Of course you know that the PCM you have won't operate the transmission. You need a PCM from an automatic.

ive actually been running an auto PCM in the truck for a few months now, works pretty good except when you send your chip back for a reburn and it romps at start up from lack of range sensor LOL any who, I was actually going to check out radio shack to check out the switchs. so would I be hooking actual pins to the PCM or can I splice into the trans harness somewhere?

thanks for the info so far guys I appreciate it. I came across the above link in my recent searchs but I don't think I see the info I need on the pins.
if a OD switch is not hooked up will this trans have any issues until the switch is hooked back up?

Does anyone know what my options are for drive shafts? I plan on keeping my transfer case and so does my cousin so ill have my slip yoke so I think ill have to mix and match a drive shaft portion in order to meet the shortness I need to make it fit.

I don't believe that the transfer cases will interchange, you might want to check that out. Why can't you just sway drive shafts also?

my cousins truck is a single cab and mine is an extend cab. Im almost positive the transfer cases swap. I did a auto to zf swap on my buddies truck and I could have sworn he kept his transfer case because the donor truck was nasty.
I will have to ask him

Early '90s Full size Broncos used a OD switch mounted in the dash; if you want a factory style setup for the OD. Bit of a PITA to reach to the dash though.

hey guys, I have the truck all torn down now. I have the auto harness out of a 96, all underhood is in my truck now. my truck is a 94.5 first gen so I think im going to have issues wiring now. I turned the key and the WTS, CEL and Engine Oil temp light stayed on, I turned the key to see if it cranks and it popped a fuse. replaced fuse now I don't have a WTS light, CEL and oil temp light stay on. I cannot get a scan tool to communicate with the PCM. im dead in the water!

I took the entire underhood harness including PCM out of the 96 truck. I think I may have an issue with wiring because my truck being a first gen and not even being equipped for an automatic as they didn't have the option out of the factory then until later 95

I still don't think that should be an issue if you took the entire harness and pcm you truck is basically a 96 for the most part have you checked fuses under the hood especially the fuel heater fuse it will throw similar symptoms such as no wts light and a cel

Yeah I checked every fuse multiple times and they are good. What's more concerning is the fact that the truck pops this number 17 fuse in the can when I turn the key
