Hey guys, Got a 2000 F250 with a Dual disk south bend clutch and as of lately its been getting hard to put into gear. The clutch has no more than 5000 miles on it. Also the clutch fork is very loose in all directions when I took off the slave cylinder, it will move side to side and up and down a good bit. Im thinking maybe a bent fork or bad throw out bearing? I also have a new slave cylinder but I don't think this is the issue. Any suggestions? thanks

Did you replace the little plastic pivot ball piece for the fork when you put the clutch in?

Well, if the clutch fork is moving up and down a bunch then that is pointing to an issue with your throwout bearing. That should be holding the fork in line with the input shaft. It should only really have movement forward and backward.

Or the pivot ball on the other end of the fork is broken, allowing the fork to rotate around the input shaft. This could also allow side to side movement. Either way, your best bet is to pull the tranny quick and see whats going on. I'd suggest wiggling the fork around as best you can by accessing through the slave cylinder opening. See if you can determine whether the fork is rotating around the input shaft (pivot ball issue) or if it is just moving up and down (throwout bearing issue). The pivot ball is like 5 bucks, and the throwout bearing about 50 if I remember right. Bare minimum order the pivot ball ahead of time, that should be replaced every time you pull the tranny, cheap insurance. I would also order the throwout bearing just so that you have it ready and aren't waiting on parts. You can always return it.
