Well..... not exactly. A single will make more power, vs a compound setup with a comparable size atmosphere. This issue is, at some point the truck is not going to be able to spool a single charger anymore, at least not well. People drive 75 or 76mm turbos, but you don't see many go bigger due to the lag. A 75mm or 76mm turbo typically will net you 900-1000hp depending on supporting modifications. Above that you might as well go to a compound set up due to the drive ability and power potential. This is all speaking in terms of fuel only. Obviously with nitrous a big single will make over 1000hp

what makes more power 71mm atmo or 71mm single?

Single. I run a single 75 with 150s. But I'd have to have larger then an 80 to match what the top compounds make and I don't feel like burning down my converter every time I go to the line.

The question was single vs compounds dyno numbers. The fact though that a ford head does not have the airflow to light the size single that it would take to make that kind of power (unless it's a pull truck bringing the rpms down to spool.)

UGH LOL this is so open ended and never ending it is not even funny. factory style "drop in" compounds, or fabricated compounds? I Will play the devils advocate and go ahead and point out my good friend made 11xx on fuel with a single s588 on a built motor 5.9... but would he have made more with a properly sized HP turbo in a compound setup? probably not... considering my other good friends 5.9 with extremely similar mods did 1040 on fuel with a 464/588 setup. BUT, the compound truck drove much better on the street. There are benefits of both setups, in their given applications. at some point, a big single becomes too much for a street driven truck, and clearly, as shown by just about every high HP competition based truck, single turbos are not enough to make good power. you need the CFM of a massive atmospheric charger, paired with the STreet manners of the HP turbo. BUT, all of the 1500+ HP trucks out here in my neck of the woods have stupid big compounds. i mean, the smaller setups run about 76MM/106MM. and goes up to about 100/118. theres always going to be a distinct advantage/disadvantage for any turbo setup, you just have to figure out what your goals are to determine what suits you best, every truck, and driver, have a different preferred setup that works best for them. so yeah.
