Exactly.

I will have the gate setup on my 15 next week. And more dyno tuning trying to get to 600... Safely

The more I think about this, your idea would be the route to make more power with that VGT. Bleed off the BP and keep the Duty Cycle tight to keep the turbo rpm up. Still that's a lot of tuning for the gate when you could just put on a different charger for 600hp.

What is everyone seeing for BP with the Non-VGT kits at low speeds and at WOT?

Dan Seitler has seen a bunch of BP up top with his current HTTurbo FWIW, it doesn't seem to be high end BP that is the issue. Which is where you would use the gate. Just dial in the tuning to not demand so much boost.

I agree, and that is what I was saying. The gate will relive the excess BP up top and the tuning limit the low end to a safe level. Tuning can limit the ebp up top as well. But as just shown, the tuning isn't quite there yet. A gate is always a good safety tool if for no other reason.

Large turbine will be nice. Slower spool. And might help BP stay safe on a mild tune. But it would have to be huge to not have any BP issues. So either way, a gate will more than likely be needed.

There will always be the ones wanting power with stock appearing setups.

But I agree, a larger turbo such as a t4 s300 or so is better for 600+.

We saw basically 1:1 or 1.2:1 with the 66/73/.91 on stock fuel at around 520hp. 40psi 40-44 ebp. But that's a larger turbine than a lot of people run. Even still it was very driveable with matts tuning.

I disagree, the '15 turbo is nothing more than a Duramax LMM charger and it doesn't surge in that application.

You are very correct that it is the same as the LMM charger... but the flow capacity and volumetric between an LMM duramax and the 6.4/6.0 trucks is HUGE!!! We all know that with similar sized turbos on any dmax vs 6.0/6.4 engines that they will have the winning edge most of the time. That is because the flow capacity and volumetric efficiency of the duramax is so much better. That flow capacity and volumetric efficiency helps the truck to stay on the compressor map and run more efficiently. Turbo surge is not 100% turbo related... it has a lot more to do with where your engine falls on the compressor map (which is directly related to flow and volumetric efficiency).

My earlier statement was simply stating the the 6.7 powerstroke has a lot more flow capacity and better volumetric efficiency. This allows it to be able to run such a mismatched turbo/compressor wheel combination with less problem and manage to stay on the compressor map... which would also apply to the LMM dmax.

But just being able to run a certain turbo combo does not make it ideal.

Hope that makes sense

to answer your question Dustin yes the stock dmax vgt runs high bp. seen trucks running over 75psi with about 35psi boost, stock injectors, single pump.

True. I hit 60psi of BP when I land on 3rd Gear with 47.9lbs Boost peek. That's been my highest BP with this 70mm Turbine. If I can make one point that I have learned is that I am making more HP with major less fuel with a lot more air not boost.

biggest killers of rods are torque (which goes way up when you slam a lot of fuel down low on a quick spooling turbo) and RPM... I doubt they're spinning that 6.7 high enough to pull a rod in two

just saying

So let's stop being coy here.

What were the mods on the truck? ie duel fuel, intake, exhaust?

What is the configuration of the truck? ie ccsb 4x4 6" lift on 37" mud tires with 3.31 gears

What was the scenario in which the truck let go? ie 4x4 boosted launch on the track on performance setting after repeated abuse

I'd just like to decide for myself if this owner/operator perpetuated the outcome or if there is a reasonable concern for normal users

I would also really like to know since I'm on the verge of putting a 15 turbo on...

The way I see it, This trucks a 2011-14 truck with duel fuelers and a tune for a stock 11-14 vgt turbo. That turbo was made for low end torque and speed to get the best towing power. Now, the 2015 turbo being bigger and more tighter on the housing with a tune for a smaller vgt turbo and more fuel was just asking for trouble. I blame the tune 100% but am not pointing fingers at any company.

Learn from the mistake that the 2015 turbo spools quick and with duel fuelers and that maybe we need to pull fuel from down low or open the vgt and keep from that turbo from spooling off the line.

I would like to know the tuning on this truck, I know it's gear head tuning but how was the vgt cycle on this truck?

just dont run dual fuelers on a stock application turbo. simple.

there is not one single issue doing a 2015 retro on an 11-14 truck. i dont why people are getting scared.
