just updating this..

jimdawg185 has tested most of the components on the motor and had the swamps idm tested and put in some high power xs batteries to rule out battery issues if any and finally got the custom alternator for it to see if we could over ride the voltage drop issue(or burn it down in the process, I call that smoke testing it) to see if we can find it.. well, that alternator is one bad mofo.. I think it is set to charge at 14.8 volts and it had 200+ amps at idle.. jimdawg185 can chime it if he feels necessary but there isn't much more to report on other then he txt me and said there is one hell of a draw somewhere.. lol.. I was like,DUH! lol..

so still trying to find out the issue..

Have him focus on wiring that is not fused, fused poorly, or high amperage fuses. I actually would be worried about it burning if, say, the charge wire is compromised. Tell him to be careful with that alt, you don't want to feed a fire, so to speak. Does he have a dc ammeter? good luck!

jimdawg185 used to be into all that wierd ass stereo/bass competition crap. he knows a thing or two about wiring.. said he had 4 alternators running at once on a vw car of some sort to power his systems.. he also got a schematic from Ohio generator( place he got the alternator) on how they said a 7.3 should be wired so im guessing it will get a makeover in the wiring department.

Went back and reread through about all of it. Man what a mess you went through.

Thought out loud on the voltage issue. Has the GEM and/or fuse box ever been swapped or changed?

does it even have the gem module? I thought that was for the chip key crap? 2000 model.. thought that was a 01 and up deal?

I have never swapped the fuse box and I have owned it since it had 50k on the clock..

All 99 up trucks have a GEM. It sits on the back side of the fuse box.

No chips in SD trucks until 08 unless it was a EX. Have Jim investigate the GEM a little harder.

what exactly does it do and is there a way to fix it or is it a replace the entire thing type of deal?

It's the one inside. It can be replaced separately from the fuse box but I usually would replace both to rule out each one.

It controls everything inside. I.e. Like when you turn the truck off but can still roll the windows down before opening door.

For lack of a better term, it sees and translates a lot of voltage to their desired source. When they are having a problem they can do some really, really strange stuff.

Did it start without the fuse box and gem in the truck? I can't remember if they will or not. Either way. Make sure your batteries are charged, and will hold a charge, then leave the gem and fusebox unhooked. See if the batteries stay up.

They had not been in the past, correct?
