Ok just to ask for everyones opinion....Why not just get a bigger turbo instead of getting the D66. I understand the D66 is modified bigger and stronger. Does anyone have any info, maps, drive pressure etc... for the D66? Not starting a fight just want to see. Thanks:clapping:

I agree with you. And thats the route I would go.
The d66 is just a great affordable drop in turbo.

The d66 is a great turbo! It's all a matter of what you want, now the d66 is limited. If you are running a large injector the back pressure will be a problem. as for mapping and all that I will allow somebody else to get into that.

It's modded bigger not stronger, it suffers the same problems as the stocker with the bearings. It's not a bad charger by any means, it's a great bump above a stocker but if the boost or back pressure goes too high it will fail eventually. That type of failure goes for any charger but the stock charger is notorious for it. I'm pretty sure in the last few years there's been several guys post boost to be numbers but I couldn't tell you where. Probably Psn or maybe even tds.

What charger's would be a straight bolt on to an OBS with Carson's Modded h2e kit. Looking at what options are available for a truck with 250's. Any BB units with fast spool up? Thanks

Is that a t4 or t4i mount?

lets see who is running a dyno proven 450-500hp truck... How much fuel do you have and what turbo are you running with it?

In my opinion for the OBS guys its so incredibly easy to drop in a D66 and make 450 with some small hybrids, if you want to go beyond that T4 mount with a s467 or 471 seems like the best bang for the buck. Anyone running those chargers?

How about journal bearing 42s??? That also seems like a fairly cheap option as long as you do the correct exhaust housing to keep it spooling fairly quickly.

With jakes kit being relatively cheap, finding a solid cheaper turbo and we could have so many more 500hp 7.3s! I think its generally the price of turbos holding people back from making more than 400

I'm running a track proven 500+ truck with 250/100's and a 38R. David hit [email protected]. I haven't had the chance to dyno it, but I'm good with the track numbers.
The price of the turbo and mount are exactly what kept me from going to a GT42 and b-codes.
A GT42 and b-codes will get you well over 600rwhp according to most people I've talked to. With proper tuning, of course.

Yeah it sure seems like thats the killer point, most will spend 1800 to get a solid set of hybrids but when its over 2 grand for the turbo they freak out since a turbo doesnt give you the seat of the pants difference like injectors do.

I just think there is a certain point where a drop in (D66 and 38r) are plenty good enough, and that point is definitely getting closer and closer to 500hp in my opinion

I was looking at almost $7K for new 400/400's, a 4202, and all the associated plumbing with the turbo. With $20K in it, I decided enough was enough at that point. I may still finish it to that level, but it'll be a while. With that turbo and those injectors, I would be 650+rwhp.
After driving a 550-ish truck, and dealing with the accompanying bugs, I'm having a hard time convincing myself that I need that extra 100 rwhp.

Yeah i dont think its worth it on a truck driven often! mine sure was fun, but i like reliability haha.

Seriously though... Why cant a drop in be the best bang for the buck on a 450hp truck?

A 38R can get you in that range, no problem. Of course, you have to live with the noise.
Is it Pocket that has the 38R and 250/200's that is dialed in just right and he's getting great performance?

I figure with your great IDE powers you'd already know about that setup?

Actually, I haven't spent much researching that cause I really didn't want to go that route. It seems like my 38r is about at it's limit with my somewhat stock injectors. I can see a lil over 35psi already. However it looks like I may get a little more enjoyment out of it while I build another motor. I never claimed to be more knowledgable than you but, thanks for another unneeded uninformative comment.. O whats an IDE? And, what nozzle you recomend, bu uddy?

Ah yes the "IDE" a term coined back in the dark days on TDS where it first became possible for one to be an "Internet Diesel Expert"
