The truck was running great and then just started running like crap.. No power at all. Shut it off and now it just turns over. I replaced the cps and still no start. There are no codes at all, ive scanned it twice. I did get it to run one time with holding the accelerator pedal down all the way but then it died. Any help at all would be very appreciated. This happened about 2 weeks ago and its at the second diesel shop and both shops have no clue..

All the sensors are good, checked the tin nut on back of ipr and it was good, good fuel pressure, voltage on batteries are good, they checked all the fuses which were good. They said they couldnt get any codes except for one time and it came up KAM error.. Any idea what this could be.. Everything seems good on it when i try to start it, Wait to start light comes on and clicks off maybe 5 to 10 seconds, the tach is moving.. It just wont start..

The Oil level is perfect, the hpop is 3/4 full, they checked the psi while cranking on the hpop and it was within specs.

Thanks

what is the "within spec" psi while cranking.... is it smoking out the tail pipe while cranking? did you check every electrical connection and any spot that rubs?

If i remember right he said 520 psi while cranking.. The shop checked every connection available, even took out the inner fender on the drivers side and checked all the wiring.

Check the PCM relay.

Its fine, i even replaced it to make sure

check fuel pressure, you may have debris clogging filters in the mixing valve in the tank

20psi while cranking on the fuel pressure..

Fuel pressure is the problem. Bet you either have a plugged filter or a bad pump. Should be a lot higher than that, like 40 pounds higher at least.

I think they are wrong. But what do I know, it's your shop. I had a fuel pump die on me, picked up a cheapo fuel pump that would pump at 30 PSI to try to limp it home (guy close to where I was had it in his barn and gave it to me). It would not fire. Got a ride home, bought a used pump (Thanks Tony and Dirk) put it on and it busted right off.

Really? I was told by both shops anything over 15 is fine

NOT even close to fine!! i was told that anything under 17psi will damage the plunger and barrel on the injectors due to the plunger bottoming out. as stated you have a clogged fuel fuel filter, or your pump is ***in shot!! how many miles on fuel filter and on the pump?

btw 99.9% of the time the mods, the guys with green names, that post in a thread are right on the money! so listen to them. once you say, well the guys at the shop say this, and it contradicts what has been said, you prolly wont get much more help from them... you came on here and asked a question you got answers then basically said those answers are wrong.. not good man...

Not upset at all. Hope he gets it fixed and his shop guys learn something from us lowly forum dudes that simply work on our trucks and drive them. The only thing I pay a shop for is tire install, front end alignment and inspection sticker.

They will run with no pressure But they won't start. Had a wire come loose powering my pump about a 2 miles from the house. Limped it home and found the loose wire when I went to start it back. Fuel pressure gauge is on my parts list when it warms up.

Yes, once the engine is running. Each injector is a small hydraulic pump. It will pull enough fuel to keep it running, not well, but running. And that is not an absolute, and it will not do good things to your injectors.

spec is 30-70 psi, most stock regulators run at 53-55psi anything below 30 psi will cause drivability concerns, yes these trucks will run at 0 psi but if it has an inlet restriction such as clogged filters in the tank or clogged pump then it will stall!

hope this info is helpful! good luck

No problem. Thanks for giving us the chance to help. We sometimes get a little upset, sometimes people will ask for help and when we answer their questions they don't listen or they were told different and they know the other person was right because he has been a professional diesel mechanic for GM for 3 months.

Sorry for the misunderstandings and good luck. Let us know how it goes.
