Hey everyone,

I have a 2003 F-350 CCLB and just recently started looking into performance mods. So far all I have is Autometer Cobalt pyrometer and boost gauges, Dp-Tuner F5, and 4" turbo-back exhaust. I'm wanting to get my truck to a SAFE 425-450HP since I have PMRs and I'm wondering what all would be required to reach my goal.

I'm ordering a BTS 4R100 in February and I just ordered a Riffraff HPx line yesterday which I will be installing in the next week or so. Other mods on the list include: S&B intake, Riffraff FRx, Autometer Cobalt fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp, and Trans temp gauges, T500 HPOP, hutch/harpoon mod, and a TS 6 pos chip w/ Gearhead tunes. I'm going to be doing all of this before I touch the injectors and turbo. For the injectors I'm thinking about FFD, PIS, or Swamps NEW 250/100s or 238/80s. For the turbo, I'm leaning towards the Irate T4 kit so I have room to grow down the road. I'm just not sure if I want to get the 366 now and upgrade later, or just go ahead and get a 468. I'll be doing the turbo well before the injectors so I need the turbo to be able to work with the stock injectors. I'm not sure if the 468 would be too big for the stock injectors or not. I would just get a 38R and be done with it but I'm planning on doing a rod swap waaaaaay down the road so I can have a 600+HP truck. I need an injector/turbo setup that will be able to be detuned to 450HP or so to save my PMRs, but can also allow me room to grow down the road. This is my daily driver so it has to have good street manners no matter what. So what do y'all think?

Thanks,
Josh

Save your money and do it all at once imo. You'll save money in the long run and don't risk putting a hole in the block. Just get some good tunes and be done till the funds become available

No point in doing NEW injectors remans are rebuilt and flowed to the same specs. If your rod swap is going to be way down the road my not do a 38r will be more than enough to support 450 HP. I recommend full force I have had great luck with mine

I've heard of several guys that went from reman to new injectors of the same size and they said they could tell a noticeable difference between the two. Enough of a difference at least to justify the cost so that's why I was leaning towards new injectors. I won't be doing injectors for a while though so I have plenty of time to make a decision.

Since I'm going with hybrids, would the 38r be able to keep up with them when they're not detuned after my rod swap? Or would the 38r be the weak link at that point and I would need to change it out? I've seen guys get 550HP out of 238/80s, 38r, and Gearhead tuning but I'm not sure if it could go higher than that. They kinda made it sound like 550HP was pushing the limits of a hybrids/38r setup and I'm not sure if that's the limit of just the injectors, just the turbo, or the limit of both? 550HP would be fine for me but I'd really like to get 600+ if I could. I'm wanting to turn this truck into a weekend toy/sled puller after I graduate college and get a new vehicle in a few years. However, I would probably change out the injectors with 300/200 or bigger injectors if I ever made it a sled pulling truck so it might be smart to go with hybrids/38r now, and then change the turbo out when I get new injectors in the future. Idk if this would be a good idea or not. I'm just throwin ideas out there.

Thanks for the help so far

IMHO...

Find a low mile take out, install studs, a set of Tim's 230/100 hybrids, Honey badger and a 38R. Then throw it in your truck.

Sell your old motor as a complete runner for $1500+ and go on with life.

Yep what joe said. Pmr engines are worth a lot more with the rods in it. Never understand why someone would basically intentionally destroy an engine worth something

This motor I paid $900 for...

I sold all the stuff off it I didnt need and was in it less then $400...

It was sold to me as a 170k used motor out of a party bus. After opening it up it looked to have 270k on it, and they were all between 320-330psi compression. Threw my mods in it, cleaned it up, and ran it at 500-550hp for 80k before cracking a piston...

This motor I bought an entire truck for $3200, 130k on it...

Parted the truck out and I am in this motor about $800 or so. Still have a stack of spare parts that I kept out of it.

There are very good reasons. We dont have this issue. 9 out of 10 companies will.

Tim, do you mind me asking what exactly are the good reasons? If not no problem. Just interested if its better specs, closer tolerances, better parts?
Seems like a lot of guys are real happy with your injectors.

Never pointed fingers.

Besides cant give away everything.

ON EDIT: I gauge our success by what tuners have to say about our product. Its nice to hear kind words from customers, but we really like to know how X tuner or Y tuner likes or dislikes something we do. Most tuners have had experiences with most if not all brands of injectors out there. When they prefer a specific brand that reassures me we are doing it right. Its the combination of the two that play a huge roll in the end product. I am very happy to say we have some very good tuners on our list of dealers.

For example Unlimited Diesel has a very tight relationship with Gearhead. I hear alot of people like this combination, so bravo to both of you.

Somewhere down in Texas..
When the time comes, PIS will be getting my order for injectors. The High Output ad's have my interest.

IF...keyword, if the Brute 66 is as superior, or as beneficial to run as it sounds...why does the 38r still get recommended so much? Just curiosity...rebuuldable, cheaper,,quieter, more efficient..I mean, it sounds pert near perfect.
