I recently aquired a 2000 7.3 with a zf6..truck has 300k on it and now it's job is to pull my 18k 38ft you hauler through both higher and lower elevations (800-9000) ft elev. I pulled it up the mountain and it wasn't loaded fully..I was grossing about 21k I'm,guessing..andntherebwas a lot left to be desired.I don't want to mess, with injectors but am not opposed to a better turbo and tuning..which leads me here..who does good RELIABLE tuning for the 7.3..also which gauges would be best to buy..boost,egt,hpop,fuel pressure??being a manual I don't really see a need for trans temp..I have thought about sending injectors to rosewood to get freshened up..unless there are better companies? I've been searching these topics but haven't found anything real concrete.
What would y'all do to,give it a little extra

If your okay with a turbo then a billet s366 and some 160/100 would probley be a god combo with a cooler. Lots of people tow here and tow heavy they will chime in im sure also g3arhead is amazing at tuning.
Good luck

If you don't want to do injectors then your only hope would be tuning.
Your stock turbo is fine. Maybe put a diesel site WW2 in it.
It's not going to be a powerhouse but it'll get the job done reliably

At 300k miles id leave it be or find a better stock truck. Or by years end his signature will look just like yours lol.

Why leave it be?? Truck is in pretty good shape from what I can tell..damn near zero blow by..it has a slight and I mean very slight wisper out of oil fill..in not looking to go crazy..just a little boost is all..this truck leaves some to be desired while towing compared to other diesels I've owned..

Would a 38r and tuning make it Any better power wise?? Without risking much

That turbo there would be a step backwards.
66mm stock turbo is a dog.
Your stock turbo is fine , just upgrade the stock compresor wheel. Throw some good tuning on it and that's all your gonna get .

Changing turbo, mounts, up pipes for the T4 setups.

38r, "I believe" would be a good turbo.

I have a question..how much difference in power would be seen if the icp or hpop isn't working right?? I have no idea on pressure of my hpop.but have noticed my icp is in fact leaking a bit of oil

Doing what your doing with it, it is no surprise you feel it's weak.. I towed a lot with a new 7.3 in 02 and it felt the same way until I tuned it and added a CAI, that's all it needed..

Intake, exhaust, and tuner. I would recommend Geer head or php tuning.
If that doesn't do it for you, the next easiest step is a 38r. That turbo will do anything you want to do in a towpig, and will support 400 hp pretty comfortably, other than the fact that it is significantly noisier than the jb 38.
There are "better" turbos available, but the drop in is cost effective.
After those steps would be injectors. Anything much bigger than stock will require some supporting mods.
As far as gauges, egt, boost are all that is "required". Fuel pressure will need to be checked under load, but you really shouldn't need to continually monitor it.:toast:
* you'll want to change your icp sensor with a ford sensor before anything else. Good info will keep the pcm happy!

Will the kit I listed earlier putting a 38r billet wheel and co.p cover be not sufficient enough because it's not, vall, vearings? I'm not really concerned with turbo lag..I'm not building a race truck and usually when your climbing hills turbo is at full song already..I can control turbo pretty easily with the manual trans..

Yes I like the drop in idea..I I my paid 3k for the truck I don't wanna have 10k in parts..just want it to do a little better than 30mph up hills..more than just speed I want it to be able to do it without putting all its got on the table..I don't like towing with skinny pedal on the mat,but with it now you'll never get up a hill if you don't...

I've never done the modded stock turbo route, so I can't tell you about that. Try it, if you dont like it, the 38r will still be available.
I will say, at 300k, you'll be looking at injectors, sooner or later. Buy once, cry once.
All three of the trucks in my sig have a 38r, btw.

Wheel, up pipes, and exhaust housing would go a long ways. (Plus tuning of course)

I've never tried that, but just intake, exhaust, and tunes never really did it for me-egts were too high for my liking in the mountains.

I could see that being a problem.
Mines not even intercooled, but I haven't really towed since doing any of that either.
But yeah, by the time you do wheel, housing, and rebuild, you might as well do a drop in.
