I was thinking that myself. I've suspected my IPR all along, but I don't just throw parts at it.

Where is all that air leaking out under my valve covers then?

Probably the ipr valve. If it doesn't close then air will escape out of it then it'll sound like it's coming out of each valve cover since its just going into the crankcase.

Just seems weird for it to crap out all at once. I could see it if I had the system opened up and possibly got some trash in it or something. Then again, weird chit keeps happening with this truck so maybe it's not all that coincidental. I've had several brand new parts that were faulty right out of the box over the past couple years.

It's just an electronic solenoid. After so long they just fail. We replace them all the time at work.

I would get one and swap yours out then recheck for leaks to be sure that it is closing.

I'm coming up with two part numbers for IPR valves.

5C3Z-9C968-CA
3C3Z-9C968-AA

What's the difference? One is cheaper than the other, which makes no sense.

I just had to change the icp in my 04 it would slow start with it plugged up but would fire quick unplugged. Put a new motorcraft sensor in and bam jus like its suppose to.

Honestly I have no idea what the difference is. The 3c3z number comes in a box the other comes in a plastic bag. They look identical though.

Talked to the guys at Sunrise. They said they have no idea why there are 2 different ones, and confirmed they look identical. They recommended the 5C3Z one though.

Ok...new IPR installed. Guess what....this beotch still won't start hot. Put the new one in, put air to it, commanded IPR to 90%...no change. Commanded it to 0%, and could hear a definite change in the tone of air. Could still hear air coming out both valve covers, but there was a definite change in the tone. Buttoned it all back up, got it to fire, let it high idle for a while. Got ECT up to 165ish...shut it down, and it immediately fired back up. Shut it off and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and I drained the batteries before it built enough ICP to fire. Got pissed, walked inside for a beer, realized I had none, and almost grabbed a match and tossed it into the cab. This frustrating beech...... Guess the valve covers are coming off next. Sucks too, since dummies and standpipes are the updated pieces. Unless it's leaking around the upper injector seals.... A newer Ecoboost sure does sound nice right about now....

Did you dribve the **** outta it to clear the air out, or just let it idle? You may need to drive it first after sir testing it, same as if you just put an injector in it.

If that doesnt fix it and you have leaks coking out of both valve covers, i would be leaning towards something at the pump. Remove the cover, and air test directly at thepump. It has the 6mm allen plug on the top, put your fitting.in there, with the icp in, and retest it the same way. There may be a pinched o ring or something at the pump or on the branch tubes.

Haven't driven it yet. Just idled in the driveway. When it drained the batteries, I got pissed and walked away before driving it. Been on the charger all evening...ill drive it after church tomorrow and see what happens.

Drive it like a jack ass. I like to drop them into third with my foot on the floor going down the highway on the limiter for 5-10 miles or so. If yours is a stick, maybe use 4th.

Took it out and drove the fool out of it. I'm pissed at it, so that was easy. Several WOT runs, ect. Got home, shut it down, waited a minute then rolled it over. Took longer than it should, but it did roll into a start. Shut it down, went inside for about 15 minutes, came back out and kit the key again. Built up to 400psi quick, then stalled out sort of, building the last 100 psi slow until it rolled into a start lazily. Apparently there is still a leak somewhere....

Really wasn't wanting to pull the valve covers on this thing.

How reliable are the updated HPO parts? Dummies and standpipes anyways...I replaced them both a couple years back. Is it common for them to fail again even with the upgraded Orings? I guess with the VC off, I'll be able to pinpoint the leak pretty quick.

I'm going to drive it to work for the next few days, just to make sure all the air is purged.

They are typically good. I have yet to see one come back. But have seen pinchedo rings at the pump, and one updated fitting that wasnt torqued enough. Also, if the branch tubes were bent at all when the fitting was installed, they could have a slight leak in them.

Like above I've never seen an updated plug or standpipe leak. But have seen the o ring that seals against the branch tube on the updated stc fitting bad from not being tightened up and the updated fitting not being torqued tight enough. Also watch around the top of each injector. Once you get one valve cover off you can usually tell if it's in the back or not.

Top of an injector is where I'm expecting to see it honestly. At least that's what I'm hoping for. Air was "louder" out of the passengers side, so might pop that one off first since there's less to remove first.

Drove it today. Turned over 3 times this morning and fired. Got to work, shut it down, and back to hot no start. Did a long crank, and it never built enough to fire. Truck sat for almost 12hrs before I cranked it to head home. Was slow building, but fired after maybe 7-8seconds.

Well there's your problem. Could hear it leaking here before I ever actuated IPR. Upper seal on #8.
