I have a 02 F450 and I am not sure what gears are in it. The tag that is supposed to be on the diff is MIA. The truck will cruse at 20000-2100 RPM at 70 MPH and has 225/75/19.5 tires on it. Is there any other way of figuring out what gears it has other than counting teeth and doing math? Thanks for any help.

4.10's or your speedometer is wrong. GPS app on your phone to check speedometer.

Look on the door tag, get the axle code and do a google search.

Not sure in 02 if you could get a 4.10 gear but Ford may have had that option.

My f550 had 4:88 with the 6spd. At 70mph it was at 2800 rpm and sounded like the rods were beating the *** out of the side of the block. I'd guess you have 4:10 gearing with your numbers.

My 08 F-350 Tow Boss dually with the same size tire with 4.30's cruising at 60 is around 1900-2000 IIRC, is it auto or manual? if its a auto knowing that the 4R and 5R has the same overdrive ratio it will be close. I would guess 4.10's or 4.30's. What's the axle code on the vin sticker?

I don't believe 450-550s were available with 3.73s.

450s may have had a 4.10 option but all most all 550s are 4.88s

Put a jack under the rearend.
Mark the drive line and spin the rear tires one revolution while counting the drivel ine revolutions. If its a little under 4 then 3.73, if its a little over 4 then 4.10.
I would bet its 4.10's.

Ok so I have been doing a little googleing and found this link (http://www.fordf150.net/specs/02fsuper.php ) If you scroll all the way to the bottom it will give the maximum trailer weight based on the gear ratio. There isn't any weight listed for 4:10 gears. so would I be correct to assume that it wasn't an option for an 02? If that is correct then I will for sure say I have 4:30 gears. My next option is going to be to pull the rear cover and count the teeth on the ring and pinion and do some math the diff needs serviced anyway LOL

Write down the vin # and go to your local ford dealer.

They can give you a really nice printout of everything that was on your truck as it left the assembly line.
