I am looking for a turbo as I am getting higher km and worry about my stock one.

I do some towing, but when I do I always manual shift so I keep the rpms up for the most part.

I was almost think non vgt because of the way I drive. I don't like to lug very much and tend to hold rpm a little longer.

The vgt will create more drive line pressure are lower rpm correct?

I also read a non vgt can create high drive line pressue if it had lots of fuel down low to get the turbo to spin quick.

So does it truly all come down to tuning in regards to drive line pressure?

VGT would be elite 4094,
nonvgt would probably be h&s which will sounds like a s366.

Also I have thought of just selling the 6.7 and going back to 6.4 lol. It's already figured out tuning wise, and lots of used performance parts lol.

Drive line pressure? I assume you're referring to drive or back pressure?

A non VGT is going to reduce back pressure. It seems with the 6.7 that a non VGT is going to spool almost as well, if not as well as a VGT charger. You're also going to have more reliability with a non VGT. When talking turbos and the 6.7, I personally feel non VGT is the only way to go. Greater potential in power and reliability.

yeah that's what I meant. Too late a night and poor memory.

isn't it the lower rpm back pressure that will bend rods on the 6.7?

A vgt is only going to hold back the 6.7.

They spool so nice being non vgt and honestly a vgt is always going to work harder and have a harder time controlling back pressure and also takes a lot of tuning to get straight

Having personally owned and driven two non vgt 6.7's, there is no way I would go to a big vgt. Hell my regular cab spools a billet 66 better than my '15 spools the 61mm vgt in stock form (a lot of that is tuning). But still, there is no way that a big vgt can spool much faster if any at all. Harder to tune and more expensive.

We have some built and are in process with getting a run of them manufactured. We have had them running for a while. Made a 73 hp gain over stock with only a turbo swap. There is a thread on it in here somewhere and an article in diesel powers issue this month.

Wish they were ready to sell right now but it takes time.

elite has non vgt kits as well as midwest. RCD I know is working on one as well, I do not think it is released yet though.

Hard to stomach paying 5 grand for a single non vgt turbo kit conversion when the turbo isn't even a thousand dollars.

Will the 6.7 be same turbo as your 6.4 kits, s366?

Yeah no doubt. duramax guys have it lucky in that department. turbos are just drop in kits for them.

Maybe it costs them 3,000 to water jet, lathe or cnc each pedestal.

I think each have their place. I prefer the simplicity of a non vgt , but if I was at a decent altitude I would rock a vgt. im going to a pretty big non vgt soon.

We can build a vgt kit, but we don't because there is zero need for a vgt on a 6.7L. We have our second kit that rolled off production in a tow truck that sees 10k miles a MONTH. This truck tows 20k+ pounds what seems like 24/7 across the nation, but mostly in Colorado and through the mountains with zero issues, zero complaints except for a blow boot one time. If that's not torture testing altitude for vgt vs. non vgt, I don't know what is.

The 6.7L reacts very well to these fixed chargers, they flow well. We are seeing a 1:1 if not less backpressure to boost ratio on these trucks with our single kits. Being the 6.7L flows so well, a VGT will eventually will limit flow, especially in the top end and create high drive pressures (not in all cases) I have yet to see a 6.7L spool any faster with a vgt than with a 63mm charger. Not going to say it doesn't work, but there will be a point of restriction somewhere depending on power goals. If your doing it to save money, you're not going to save anything.
