I asked him about that and he said he's been doing this job too long for it to be just that. They put 3hrs into diagnostics including taking the valve covers off so I figure the guy knows what he's talking about.

Is the pump leaking, or is it just not making pressure?

Never ever seen a pump leak, and that would be pretty hard to diagnose anyways.

I hope he isn't talking about an audible air leak from the pump.

It will bypass with the IPR de-energized and if the IPR is energized and it still makes air whooshing sounds the IPR is dicked.

Pretty sure they replaced the hpop cover, the casting that the ipr screws in to

Touché you're correct. I thought by his description that's what he meant. Must be the pump then. Never heard of them cracking though

Ah, low pressure oil pump. Not too difficult of a fix, nor too expensive, but the ones we've worked on would not even think about firing up.... ???
Have to remember that one.

His probably still had some oil in the hpop reservoir so it could draw some on to start for a second then starve an shut down.

Needle bearings usually cause those to be trashed. But weird thing is I've replaced probably 10 and haven't had a truck return because of a failed lifter

Is it weird to not had to wait for the injectors to cycle when I turn the key to the ON position anymore? I mean once in the morning, but throughout the day I don't really hear them.
