Well, without taking it apart, all of the techs at the Ford dealership in Deming, NM, believe that it is the torque converter. The fluid wasn't as bad as I had thought. The fluid DID have a lot of shiny metal in it... The billet input shaft is still in good shape, and the TC hub "had a lot of wobble to it"...
Now, that is TC # 2 that I have wrecked... In the mean while, I have had a STOCK TRANS, AND STOCK TC last, with the same type of tuning, last for 130,000 miles... And both of the TCs that I have had self destruct, have held up in 1,000 hp trucks... my driving habits have not changed. I have yet to do as boosted launch, on either TC, I have yet to tow heavy on the latest one, and I only towed 17 K one time with the first one... for a whopping 14 miles on I-10...
Also.... I LOVE THE GEARHEAD TRANS TUNING... so far... Very clean, very strong, and very smooth. No more jerky pedal. I ran it from 50 up to 85 on the interstate, and it stayed below 40 psi, but climbed MPH very well.
I also put new shocks on there... WOW, those factory shocks were crap, and wore the hell out... The bilstien 5100s were a great addition.
