+'05 axle conversion

Currently have a 3" Sky RSK. I want to lower my truck to increase clearance over the bed for the GN trailer. If I convert to +'05 axles, would the height go down if I use stock coil springs?

Does the coil sprung front end ride better?

I have a bigger lift and wheels and I can tow a goose neck trailer.The neck on my trailer is adjustable.I don't know what kind of trailer you have but it would be worth looking into.

It would be the same or around the same as a stock 350 truck. You can also buy the 4400lb gas truck coils (prolly closer to actual front weight anyway) to drop it even a few more inches. The front axle weight on my truck is 4800 and rear is 2400 as it sits on level ground for a referance

The OP is pulling an enclosed gooseneck. When I had my lifted ccsb, I played hell getting one built with the riser height to clear my 6" lift and 35's. NOBODY would give me the riser height AND a tapered nose. Sometimes it's just more sensible to go lower...like I did.

The 6.4 truck I have driven on concrete highways seemed to ride a bit bit worse then my truck does with the current setup.

I think it would sit lower. I am running all stock 06 springs and I clear 315's but they are tight in the front. It is definitely the same height or shorter than a newer one ton truck.

I'm running 4800lb coils and F250 2" rear blocks. Rear sits about 1.25" higher than front, so very little rake. Ride is amazing and overall height is lower than a stock F350. I wouldn't go any larger than a 33" tall tire on my setup. Towing clearance is awesome with this setup. Coming from a 4" lift with F350 rear blocks, I gained 5-6" of clearance for goosenecks.

Personally, I don't know if the 4400lb springs would give enough clearance between frame and axle. It'd be tight. I don't have bump stops installed but if I did, I'd only be a couple inches off them with my 4800's.

Which springs are which? Mine came from an f250 with the 6.0.

I have the 2" block in the back and mine sits about 1/4" higher in the front. I plan on an F350 rear block to get some rake back.

The front springs on the diesels should be the same. The rear block is different.

I bet you have 5600's. The true way to tell is the code off the door sticker of the donor vehicle. If not available, then there might be a part # tag on the coil itself. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

So the front coils arent the same? Or are you saying he might have coils off something other than a diesel donor truck?

Coils have different rates just the same as leaf springs. And they vary on diesels and on gassers. The typical ones I've seen on diesels is 5600 and 6200lb rates, however some came with 4800's. My 4800's came off a factory 2011 diesel. But the 4800's and 4400's are typically found on the gassers.

I have no bumpstops and I think i've only bottomed it out once when i didn't realize how aggressive of a bump it was. With bumpstops it would be perfect.

On your 97? Any pics? What rear blocks, if any? I'm curious of ride height compared to mine. I spent quite a bit of time out in Chico this last summer and fall.

4800 lb coils came in the super cab short beds, and STD cabs with a diesel. Also depended on towing package, plow package, 250, 350, but yes.... lots of different spring rates.

Anyway, there should be a tag on the spring itself you can cross referance to a spring rate
