the biggest culprit in making your 10.25 weak is the crush sleeve.
replace that with a crush sleeve eliminator and it is a pretty tough dif IMO

Not strong enough to go truck pulling - its a good way to snap axle shafts non stop and the pinions do a good job of bending down in such a way that your diff will look like it has zebra stripes before it snaps off.

ok so I guess I will look for a D80 from an early ford or dodge with drums brakes and just run my stocker till it breaks..... what year fords would be a bolt in if any? would spring perches have to be moved on all D80's??

not looking to make huge hp #'s up here in central ny the 2.6 class is fairly new and not alot of competition... I feel i will be competitive with my setup this year if i can keep from breaking driveline parts is all..

Ive yet to break one.. I blew my stock driveshaft and rear yoke to pieces at the first hook of last season, then had a nice shaft built with 1480 joints and havent had a issue yet! knock on wood

My PERSONAL OPINION, it all has to do with setup. Welded axle tubes, well built traction bars (mine also has a 3rd link off the top of the rear), proper suspension setup (bolted solid), and proper air pressure in the rear tires. If you make it run smooth down the track and not bounce, it can last. Is a dana 80 a better option? duh! But i refuse to change something that hasnt let me down yet. Im sure ill blow it apart this year since i will be running duals at a few pulls, but we have enough spare parts laying around to put it back together a few times.

btw, Jesse warren has been and still is runnin duals on his 10.5...

pinion bearing preload is set with a crush sleeve, a cheap piece of tubing designed to collapse as you tighten the yoke until y ou get the correct preload on the bearings.
stupid idea.
in our trucks the diesel continues to crush the sleeve leaving your pinion gear bearings loose.
on mine I found them so loose the shim under the pinion head, that should never see movement, worn to about half its thickness from spinning against the bearing.
the Yukon 9" crush sleeve eliminator fits with just a little filing for the radius on our pinion.
neat design that captures shims between two interlocking pieces. I was expecting a piece of tubing and some shims so was pleasantly surprized by what I recieved.
think I paid under $35 for that part, small change when its well over $300 for the master install kit.

I'm going to just keep my eye out for a D80 with drum brakes (dnt want to do a disk conversion) I have already welded my axle tube last year, I have a set very stought set of traction bars, and can bolt my my suspenion solid and hang weight.... I will just run my 10.25 till it breaks then do a swap..
