The majority of my towing is a 18ft trailer with two 1900lb mowers on it. So I'm never really towing that heavy. I have towed heavier on occasion, but it's always local, and short trips where I'm not worried about it too much.

But I get what you guys are saying. It really would make more sense to just replace with stock size and be done with it, since I'm not really looking to upgrade a turbo in the near future... or even other supporting mods at that. Like I said, I'd just been tossing the idea around. But more than likely, I'll just end up with some stock replacements and call it a day.

My current injectors aren't really bad. Just some pretty bad stiction. I've tried Revex and Archoil.... neither of which helped all that much. I get weak buzz tests on a couple of them, so they are just ready to be changed. No big deal. I figure I've gotten 155,000 miles out of a stock set (pretty sure they have never been changed), so they've held up better than most. I keep it plugged up when it's cold and I never have a problem with it. It still cranks even when not plugged in, but she runs like hell until it warms up some. Just tired of fooling with plugging the thing in every night, or waiting on it to clear up if I can't plug it up some days.

Not for nothing, but how good are your batteries and have you tested your FICM yet? You'd be surprised how crappy things will run with a weak FICM.

Great comment. When I used my extreme tune to tow, I had the lowest temps period, but I had the most advanced injection timing! There is a reason tow tunes do not advance the injection timing too much, especially if you load the engine for longer bursts (cylinder pressure). With his stock nozzles, his risk is definitely lower.

Same here. I towed a 14" enclosed trailer once on X-street, and gave it all sorts of hell running up hill. My EGT's never got out of control, but the coolant temp on the dash gave me some warnings and defueled the truck. I had to pull over and let it cool off a bit before proceeding. Again, EGT's were always in check. I don't think they broke over 1100*.

I can hit that on my tow tune too, but I never have to worry about EOT or ECT.

Rev-x helped slightly, but noticed nothing with Archoil. Once temps come up a little, it runs perfect. I get a weak buzz on 1,3,5, and 8 when she's cold. Blueish smoke until it warms up. But once it runs for a few minutes it clears right up like nothing was ever wrong. But even with those weak buzz tests, no matter how cold it is outside or how long it's been sitting, it'll still fire right up. Couple months ago it sat for 5 days unplugged with temps in the high 20's everyday. Cycled the key once, and it fired right up.

That's weird, I've tried both and noticed the best improvements with Archoil 9100. Rev-X worked well too, but not quite as good.

2,3,5,8 are on one FICM plug and 1,4,6,7 are on another. Just for reference. So sounds like it's more of an injector problem. How many miles on this truck? I believe Warren is selling just the coil part of the injectors now and I've heard it makes quite a difference on old injectors. I think it's like $400 for all new coils though. Just to eliminate possibilities of it being a FICM or a wiring harness issue, you could always swap the injector plugs around and try a buzz test again (don't try and start it like this). If the problem stays on the same holes then you know it's the injector, but if the problem jumps then you know it's an issue with the FICM or harness. Might be worth a shot...

I've tried this before...same injectors buzzed weak. Trust me...I've been through every technique known to rule out a weak ficm! It's definitely injectors. Roughly 155,000 miles on the truck.

Gotcha! I'm just not used to people actually diagnosing anything LOL

Yea I hear ya. I'm no expert on this motor by any means, but there is enough research online to help anyone diagnose some of the common issues. I refuse to take my truck to any shop unless I just absolutely have no other option. If I can fix it, I will. I'd rather put the price of labor rates towards go fast goodies!
