#18 fuse is blowing when I hit the brakes....no brake lights.

Probably one of the bolts holding in tthe fuse box was touching a wire in the brake circuit. Over time it wore through just a tiny bit. Hard to see. When you pulled the block you moved the wire and when reinstalled, it was no longer toughing the bolt.
