So about a month ago my truck randomly died, got it to a stop put in park turned the key off and it restarted rite away. Made it about half mile down the road and it stalled again, pulled over and the truck fired rite up again but when I would put it in gear it would die instantly. This time the check engine light and WTS light were both flickering. Sat there for about 15 min and it fired rite back up and now would drive so I made it work, truck sat for 10 hours and made it 20 miles home afterwards with no issues but then died again rite by my house but started rite up and away I went.

The next day I changed the CPS, (gray one from ford) and the truck has been perfect for a 3-4 weeks with many miles driven. Yesterday out of no where while driving it died again so I coasted to the shoulder put it in park and went to start it and was getting the same flickering from CEL and WTS and truck would not start, unfortunately I was not paying attention to the tach at this time. Re cycled the key and everything was normal, no CEL and WTS was lit solid. Made it about a mile down the road and when pulling away from a stop sign, the truck sputtered almost like it wasn't getting fuel and then had the same sputter one more time while coasting out of a parking lot but did not die either time.

The truck has 169k miles and is overall immaculate, Oil level is rite on the money and Oil and Fuel filter were changed 1k miles ago, fuel bowl was immaculate at the time. This has always happend on the front tank and with the engine at operating temperature. After I changed the CPS the truck ran noticeably better then ever before, the truck still runs strong but now it just feels to me how it did before I did cps. Truck does not have a chip and is all stock other than straight pipe.

Thoughts? CPS? CPS wiring? ICP? IPR?

Thanks!:pint:

You could check the IPR nut. Make sure it's tight.

Didn't really have time to look at anything today, but put probably 20 miles on it without issue today. I haven't checked the nut but it seems like the IPR is loose....When I grab the pigtail it for sure can be moved side to side with out much effort which kind of makes it feel like every things loose. Debating if I should drive it to work tomorrow or not now.

Replaced IPR and ICP pigtail this morning (locking tab was broke). Fuel filter had 6k miles on it, last filter did NOT look like this. Thoughts? Bad fuel? Crap in the tanks? I don't run the truck below a 1/4 tank and fill up at the same spot every week. Anyone know of any additives for the tanks if thats the case? Thanks:pint:

Injector o rings possibly. Did the "fuel" in the filter housing look like used motor oil? Looks like you may have some water or algae issues too.

I drained the fuel bowl as I was taking the filter housing lid off so by the time I had it off it was less than half full. Definitely not used motor oil looking so I wasn't thinking O-rings but what I could see wasn't exactly clear either, almost had a milky hint to it. Never saw water in fuel light, kind of thinking possible algae issues? What to you think about power service Bio Kleen? What would your next step be? Thinking about throwing a filter in it/fresh fuel and maybe some of that Bio Kleen and keeping an eye on the filter from there.

Im still not really sure if its O-rings, truck still has real good power, smooth idle and I don't think I'm getting Oil in the fuel but I will definitely keep you in mind if I end up needing them. Thanks!

I run the grey power service bottel alot. Grab a 911 bottel and throw it and a fresh filter in there and see how it looks in a tank.

Id drop the fuel tanks and clean all that crap out if it was my truck. Injectors are expensive, and its not too hard to drop the tanks.

So dropped the front tank and cleaned it/fresh fuel. Went to take it out and it was fine for a few miles, parked it and went to take it to dinner and died 3-4 times in under a mile. So today I put another cam sensor in it, last time I got a gray one from ford and this time I got a dark purpleish one. Put the new CPS in it, truck fired rite up smooth idle etc and then died sitting there running in my driveway.

Wondering if theres not air in the system? It fired rite back up and I put probably 15 miles on it with almost no issues, coming to a stop once it felt like it was going to die and WTS came on while this was happening but truck did not die. Pulled the fuel filter when I got home and everything looked great.

Truck seems like its down on power now but Ive also been running around in a tuned 6.0 the past few days so getting back into a bone stock 7.3 might just be me losing my mind. But I swear it felt stronger before.

Abs light comes on with WTS but then goes away after after a second or so. Could VSS possibly have anything to do with this? Have an ICP coming tomorrow. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!:fustrate:

If it is only happening on your front tank I would check for a cracked or broken fuel pick up line. Is your suction screen still on or has it rotted away and pieces are plugging the fuel pick up.:fordoval:

I had my truck do the same thing, changed the ICP out and it never did it again. Pull the pigtail and see if it has oil in it. If so then whether its your problem or not, its on its way out and you should go ahead and change it before it causes issues as well.

The problem has ended up occurring on both tanks, I think at first I just happened to be running on the front tank each time out of coincidence. Justinlouge5_0, I replaced the ICP pigtail two days ago because I noticed the locking tab was broken however no oil inside pigtail. Still going to replace it. I think I had a combination of things going on but now I think it's down to something electrical. I just went to get in the truck and turned the key on and WTS and CEL were taking turns flashing. Sounded like the glow plug relay was chattering. Truck started fine and all lights went away once it was running however WTS remained on and lite solid for a moment while truck was running.

You might have a short then.
You blew out the selector valve also?

On mine when I went efuel, the quick disconnects at the selector valve started sucking air.
