2005+ Dana 60 inner axle seal issues

Was almost finished rebuilding my Dana 60 and hit a snag. I replaced the inner axle seals and the axle shafts will not go back through the new seals. Has anyone run into this issue? I used Dana/Spicer 52148 seals.

I went to the Ford dealer today to see what seals they offer for it and they are the same style seal and have the same problem with my stock shafts. The shaft will start through, but only go about 3/8" before they won't go any further. This happens with both shafts and both new seals. Are these seals really supposed to be this tight? I've rebuild several older axles and never had seals this tight before.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a newer style seal that I've never seen before. The Ford Dealer claims this is the newest updated seal, but you know how that goes..

This is the seal I'm trying to use.. I'm finding conflicting info on this seal. Some places say it's for a 99-04. Some say its 99-current. I've used that seal in 99-04s in the past without issues, but this is my first 2005+.

the axle shaft changed in 2005 along with the unit bearing and hub style

so i was pretty sure the inner axle seal changed ( as you have seen in some of the listings )

you want a vin to use at the dealer to check the part ?

Its a pretty messed up problem to have. I'm gonna get the dealer to search the part for a 2008 and see if the seal is any different. I have tried hitting the shafts in with a hammer and without the carrier even in the housing and the shafts won't go. Lol

I went back to the dealer and tried seals for a 2008 as well. Still a no go. They have the same seal for 2008 as well. So to recap, Ford has the same seal for 2005 and 2008 F-350 and F-450.

Parts stores have the same seal from 1999-2008 as well. I took an axle shaft and tried the dealership and parts store seals with no luck. The seals aren't going all the way on the shaft
