2011 6.7 F350 P0272 and a pop with smoke

Hi All,

Started my 2011 F350 and came up with a code P0272 and ran rough. I let it warm up and while the engine was warm and running for a while, there was a pop sound and VERY rough running with exhaust coming out of the engine compartment on the passenger side.

I've read on here that it might be an injector hold and the injector popped out..is this possible?

I shut it off immediately! I'll be towing it to a diesel shop for an assessment but am wondering what the cause might be and the potential cost?

I'll preface this and say I know nothing about diesels and this truck is primarily used for pulling a 5th wheel and doesn't really see many miles.

Is it an early one? Could have cracked a valve/broke a glow plug and had a slight exhaust leak you hadn’t noticed as it wasn’t puking smoke out of it till now
