i have nothing useful to add, other than why the heck would you swap in a weaker transmission with horrible behavior characteristics?

Have to agree with sootie. Thus far I can’t understand the reasoning?

I feel like people think more gears equals lower rpm through the higher gears, therefore better mileage. Or something like that.

On the top end there is barely any difference. The bottom end is a 1st gear that is used for a split second (aka useless), and a horrifically slow reverse gear! The sole reason is to keep the engine in its most efficient range to manage emissions better.
