Dedicated snow tires are best, but a 3 peak studded tire is still damn good. It is well worth it in my book.

I did have a set of snow tires one time. They were not studded, but they still performed very good on ice and in snow. So good in fact, that when I changed them out I was shocked at how little my new tires gripped ice.

The only reason I don't run full snow tires is the compounds are very soft, so they wear out really fast.

Yup, that's what I found out as well. I liked everything about them other than that.
