4.10 or 4.30 gears for 37's?

Ive been running around for a year or so now with the new motor and trans on 3.73's and need more gear.. so with my mods and weight. Dont pull but do alot of stop and go around town. im also adding a truetrac and elocker.

So for 37 13.50 17 toyo mt's 4.10 gears or 4.30 gears?

When I was looking at a regear 4:30 put it close to stock from what I have read and been told.

I don't think you will see enough of a difference just going to 4.10's so I vote 4.30's. I will also ad that I'm not seeing why you feel the need to regear. I ran 3.73's and 36x14's and 38's and never had a problem burning the tires off from a stop by just pinning the throttle. Never had a problem towing either. Towed just like stock and that was with only little stage 1's and stock turbo. Now with the 6.0 I have now the low end isn't there s0 I would regear for sure.

If it were my truck I would put 4.30's in it. I had an 04 with 4.56's and 35's and liked it. The truck was used mainly for towing though, not too many trips cruising above 75.

I am on 38.5 tires with stock 3.73 gears and doing fine. If your mostly driving around town you will probably be ok. But once you get on the freeway you might be wishing you went with 4.10 or stayed with the 3.73

If it were my truck I would put 4.30's in it. I had an 04 with 4.56's and 35's and liked it. The truck was used mainly for towing though, not too many trips cruising above 75.

The 7.3/4r100 is much different than the 6.0/5r100 when it comes to gearing and bigger tires. If you had 4.56 gears and 35inch tires on a 7.3 you would have pretty high RPM if cruising at 75mph or higher

anyone else? ill be ordering this weekend. i just hope theres enough of a change with the 4.10 to help my city mpg i drive 400 miles a week in the city/around the city which kills my economy..

if you want to keep your rpms down while cruising and have better mpgs go with the 410s if you want stock gearing back then the 430s from 373s to 410s thats a 10% gain.. when i do it with my 37s ill be putting in 410s

Im leaning toward the 4.10. as im going to be doing compounds with 400/200's. but oh my 4.30's would be fun!

What would be the point in changing gears if you are going to make that kind of power?? with a good compound set up you will have boost quicker then factory. And spool up would be quicker.. SO 3.73 might work for you..

But if you do a lot of town driving with that size of injector you might want the 4.30 gears...

I have 3.55 gears and 235-85R16 tires and a ZF6 transmission on my OBS..
Should be a nice highway gear..;)

A couple things I would consider A) are you going to stay with 37's? B)where do you do most of your driving C)How do you drive

First off, are you definitely staying with 37+" tires? If you decide to run a wide 35 on a 12" wheel a year from now you'll hate 4.30 gears. With 37's and 4.30's you may be on par with what a stock truck has for gearing with stock tires but the trucks were over-geared to begin with. 3.73's and a 7.3 towing at 60mph and under is great. A 35 with 4.30's would be screaming if you drove 75 on an interstate. Something to think about.

Secondly, if you drive on two lanes and in town mostly you'd want lower(numerically higher) gears to keep space between gears shorter. Kind of how a stock 5r wiiiiiinds-shifts-wiiiiiiind-shifts....nice tight shift interval. If you are running 4.10s you'd be more suited for a 55+ mph tow rig. I personally think 4.30's would be too much for a truck that might run across the country or state to state. You can always downshift but if you're in high gear and need more, SOL!

This third point, How you drive?, kinda ties in with the one above. If you like to stab the pedal and get up to your intended speed in eight seconds and then cruise Id go with the lowest gear you can handle at cruising rpms. If you get your roll on at a gentlemans pace and take your time getting the rig up to speed choose the higher pinion set. Let er wind up to each shift.

I personally would probably choose 4.10's but cant see doing all that bs just to gain .37/ratio. If your diffs are shot and need it anyway you can pick whatever you want.

In closing, Id like to say that with 3.73's the pedal to the floor acceleration can be slightly cumbersome but when cruising at 70mph empty Im sippin fuel! If Im towing and wanna run 65, lock out the o/d and you're right where a stock truck would be runnin...

1) definitely staying with 37's.
2) Most driving is done in and around the city of baltimore. stop and go, might travel more then 100 miles 4-5 times a year.
3) Definitely have a heavy foot and like to get upto speed with the quickness
4) Like to cruise at 75-80 mph

Driving habbits - 75/24 city/hwy

Currently getting 9-10mpg city weekly (300-350m to 38 gallon)

Roadtrip i can get 14-15mpg hwy (500-550m to 38gal)

with a gear swap you will gain in town.. But loose on the highway...

Waht it comes down to now is what will YOU be happy with... You could always do 4.30 gears then later do a GV overdrive , That way you have the best of both worlds..

true.. hopefully being as most of my driving is stop and go around town. i think over the course of a year my overall fuel consumption should be less.. i hope. and i will have more get up an go.. i just hope its not too loud at 80mph and 2250rpms

4.30's with gt88/38r compounds and 400/200's.... gonna be fun :D

with 47" tires and 4.30 you should be 91 MPH somthing at 2500 RPM's..

My pickup with 4.10 and stock tires was 70@2500.. THAT is the reason I whent with 3.55 gear's!! Besides I did lockes when I was in there...;) Now I am at 92 @ 2500rpm's

Haha what is a 5r100? I would imagine you mean 5r110.... The 5th gear in the 5r110 is the same ratio as the 4r100 4th gear so the rpms at 75mph would be the same weather you had a 7.3 or 6.0 with the 4.56 gears.

Both have a .71 final drive ratio...
