Your first step is to get the ATSG 4R100 manual. It is available from Amazon. It will cost you about $25. It’s the best builder’s Manual out there. Follow it to the very word.

You will also need to buy an engine stand from Harbor Freight. You will need to but a transmission holding fixture that will mount to the engine stand. You can strip the trans on the floor. The empty case gets mounted to the stand. It must be vertical for rebuild. You will need engine hoist to get it off. It then must be placed in a horizontal position for the last part of the rebuild. You should buy a transmission floor Jack from harbor freight. You should go online and buy a 4R100 trans plate to mount to that floor jack.
