That's a diode sprag "one way clutch"

Retrofitting to the older e4od components makes it more reliable.

Yep yep. Got the parts ordered. Mark would you feel uncomfortable simply replacing the necessary parts and putting this transmission back together? From what I've SEEN, no small small pieces are present. We pieced the diode back together with the pieces we found, and determined the small curly piece of metal in the pan was a piece that got "machined" off from the clutch when it failed.

That depends what the clutch friction material looks like. If it's in good shape there is no need to replace it.

From what we've seen, the steels and frictions all are in excellent condition. Thanks for the input. Going to put a kit in it (includes new drum, clutches, 45 element sprag, etc.) to replace the diode with the better design and clean the valve bodies/accumulator really well.
