Looking to make the trans in my 02 live. It's a fresh tranny from Ford with 600 miles on the clock now and I want to put a upgraded valve body and convertor in it. Need help deciding. I was told the trans would hold if these 2 things were upgraded right away. Truck has RR, S366, 300/200's all other supporting mods. Trans took a **** and got a new one from Ford dirt cheap so this is the route I'm going. Any help ?

Honestly if it's just a stock ford reman and you got it cheap. Sell it now while it's not broken try to make a penny on it and get a built trans. It don't matter what you do to it. A stock tranny even with a billet triple disk and a bts or jw valve body is not gonna last long with your setup.

I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, but I ruined a trans just like yours with a set of 250/100's and an h2e. The billet converter held the power. But it would slip the clutches like crazy in 3rd. Then the input shaft broke. When I pulled trans apart it was full of clutch material. It only had 5k on it. I sent it in as a core on a bts. You may have better luck than me. Just hate to see someone make the same expensive mistakes I have.

I didn't want to be that guy preaching get a built trans. I just hate to see you go thru the same headaches that I have. I guess it also depends on your driving habits. Personally I'm hard on stuff. Lol I have broke my bts twice.

I would sell or have it rebuilt to handle the combo clutches etc.

I had a stock Ford reman put in and I toasted it just with 160/100's 38R,T500 within 5-7K miles.

If you do decide to keep and put AM TC/VB in if you haven't already I would get a 6.0 cooler on it to keep it cool.

BTS or John Woods VB with a good billet triple disc TC and have your tunes re programmed.. this will void your warranty on the trans if your current mods have not already..

^^^WHS
Or you could take a small gamble to save approx. $150(core hassle, shipping....etc.) and buy a Transgo Tugger II kit from summit. Exactly the same thing BTS uses, just minus the set-up expertise. u will have a ton of parts left over though from the kit. Myself and DMStrucks02 went this route, but on stock injectors. As stated above, if you turn them 3/2's up that trans probably wont last long. good luck!!!

Running my 2002 with a superchip the other day on the 85hp setting and my tranny started to over heat (250*+) I did away with the cooler that runs through the radiator and just put a cooler that is 14x8x3/4 in.. Thinking this is my issue and the cooler just isn't big enough. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You're running 300/200's with a Superchip?

Yea waiting on my TS to get reburnt

Don't. That combination of fuel and duration / timing tables, the transmission is the least of your worries. You are better off running without a tune, if you absolutely need the truck.

The best option is buy a Hydra from PHP. Not having to pull the chip every time you need tweaks made will help get your setup dialed in.

For the time being, I would advise not driving the truck until you have proper tunes. If that is not an option, flash it back to stock and use the stock calibration.

IIRC, the old Superchip 1705 I had back in the day called for 5.3ms of duration at times.

Yup, still rocking this trans but with 238/80s now.. the VB mods were easy to install
