5.4 coils settle?

I lowered my truck down this weekend and now I want to tear the front apart and cut the 5.4 coils a little. I removed the rear block in the back and the thick overload spring on the bottom and it dropped the truck about 3" in the rear. Ride quality is amazing compared to stock fx4 suspension.

All I did in the front was swap out the coils for the 5.4 coils and put a dual steering stabilizer. The ride and steering is so much nicer but I want to get the front level with the rear...I'm off about 1.5":evil. I was so dead set on getting new shocks when I lowered it down but it seems like the stock ranchos work a ton better with the truck at a lower height.

I think after I get the front lowered and some wheel spacers to move out the factory rims I'll be happy with the looks...

I doubt the 5.4L coils will settle much if any, but with softer spring rates, and less travel before the bump stops (we usually trim the bump stop to be about 1/2" tall to allow for some travel) if the stock 5.4L springs don't drop it enough, I recommend going back to the stock springs, and cutting them down accordingly. the trucks with cut 5.4L springs tend to bottom out easily, and I'd prefer a slightly stiffer ride of the diesel springs without the spine jarring effect of frequently hitting the bump stops.

Truck looks good!! I think Wayne is right on, better off picking up a used set of diesel springs & cutting them to your desired height & keeping the correct spring rate for your diesel. Post up a wanted add Im sure there are a ton of stock springs laying around from guys who lift there trucks.

The way the truck rides now is 100X better than stock. All i have left to do is finish installing my OUO bars and I'll be happy. How much do you have to cut a stock coil to get the drop to be 1" lower than a 5.4 coil? I might just let the little bit of rake go and be happy with it.

Just need more power now....:naughty:. Kind of thinking about doing the atmospheric upgrade..

I'll be posting a review next week (if the turbo goes on Saturday). I should have some dyno numbers soon too. I would like to get before and after, so I am going to be scrambling this week to get some before numbers. There is a Dynojet 248C literally 5 minutes from my house. Hopefully he can get me on this week if he isn't too busy tuning cars.

Got yah... Should be goin 12.0s with that set up on your truck:poke:LOL just playen

LOL

I do plan on running it again once I get my PMF stuff on the truck. I guess we will see what it does. I want to run at a track close to sea level. My home track is just above 1,000 feet. I know that's not high, but 800-1,000 feet lower would definitely yield a little better time I think.

Sorry OP, derail over...

No problem about the derail lol. Ive been meaning to message you for a few days about getting your turbo installed and how you liked the results...good thing I waited.

I have the OUO bars sitting in my garage waiting to be finished up. I tore the rear of the truck apart twice this weekend so I didn't get a chance to finish up.I only got the rear bolt on mounts installed. At first I wanted to just take the rear blocks out and then when I went to do the second side the overload spring just fell out and it gave me the idea of going back to the first side and pulling it too.

Idk if you have a steering stabilizer but the dual bds kit i bought gave a nice improvement with my stock tire setup....

With my 295/60/20's I'm using as winter tires, a dual steering stabilizer would be awesome. I'll be running street tires again by summer though, and there is really no need for one with tires that pretty much cling to the road.

I have the stock 275's and these tires are a piece of ****.... Just accelerating from 40-60 I got sideways on the freeway on ramp....Nitto 420's are going on in a week or too. I wanted to get some new rims but I really like the way the stock 20's look with the factory red color....I think I'm going to pick up some wheel spacers to push them out a little though.

More pics? I've been thinking about the 5.4 coils, with no rear block.....I have them sitting in my shed, just haven't pulled the trigger.

I haven't messed with them... But I wonder if a 5.4 coil with a full round cut off could be the best bet, since the spring rate will go up a good bit?

Maybe I missed it but i want to do the same to my truck...Is it just replace the front springs with 5.4 springs and take the rear block off...
