6.4 egr delete - tube freezing?

I just got an egr delete kit and before I go ahead and install I had questions about a thread I saw somewhere about a tube or sensor holding water and freezing in cold weather. Once frozen it caused the turbos to over boost. Sounded like this occurs only after the delete is installed. If this is true is there any preventative measures I can take while I am doing the install?

That would be the EBP (exhaust back pressure sensor and tube. Totally different thing. Don't worry that's a simple fix if/when it does happen. I am lucky enough to not have to deal with it being in Florida others will chime in and explain better.

I think the tube their talking about is the EBP (exhaust back pressure) tube

Yes if you live in a cold are your EBP tube will freeze up and you will overboost if your not careful. A temporary fix if it does happen is to unplug the sensor which is located on the driver side near the HP turbo. The solution to the problem is to remove the old EGR pipe all the way to the up-pipes and install the EGR blocker plate right on the up-pipe behind the turbos. You will need to drill and tap the blocker plate and relocate the EBP tube and sensor onto the blocker plate. This was a PITA to do but I haven't had a problem since.

Also when I did this fix, I found an inch of water had built up in my EGR piping that had been blocked off, which will freeze.

I pulled inner fender and made this cut came out fairly easy just be patient and an extra set of hands are nice.

if you dont need the egr catalyst pipe on the truck for any emissions related reasons, delete the pipe, relocate the egr block off plate up top and mod it to accept the ebp sensor fitting and your golden. my ebp sensor used to freeze up, now since i relocated it up top life is good.... no freezing when your 6" from the hotside of the turbos lol

I hadn't realized it caused the head gaskets to blow.... Jesus.... As far as I was concerned you could always tell because it would run like absolute crap. I overspend my turbos several times with no issues to heads. No reason to get wound up about it. We don't have the same climates so "freezing" isn't a factor. imp:

He said in another thread that he had head problems before this EBP sensor issue. If you monitor gauges you would catch this in no time.

Thank you for the link. I can't keep the winter front on with a heavy cattle trailer in tow. Runs too hot and the engine fan keeps kicking in.

I cut two holes in the front to allow some air flow. I can tow up to 30F without getting things too warm and it blocks enough air to prevent freezing when it gets cold.
